Monk vs Reed
So talk is that Andre Reed is a chinch for the Hall of Fame. WHY?????
He was never on a Super Bowl Winner. His numbers are almost the same as Art's except he had 19 more TD's. The only reason he had more TD's is he was the only reciever of any note on the Bills. In Art's tenure we had Saunders and Clark among others who were gifted guys. Otherwise their numbers are very similar. I just don't get it. Here you have a guy like Art Monk that is/was the epitomy of class and grace and he gets slapped in the face. Reed was a hot head (wasn't it Reed who got upset in the Super Bowl and cost his team the game by jerking off his helmet?) I just don't get it. I am not saying he was not a great reciever because he was. I just see very little difference between him and Art and really feel that Art should have been a first ballot guy. I know I am preching to the choir here but I just don't get the brush off Art gets. Whats not to love about the guy!!! |

Re: Monk vs Reed
I submit this in support of my argument....Compare:
Art Monk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia To: Andre Reed - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

Re: Monk vs Reed
It was mentioned this weekend during one of the games and had read it several places in the past. Also Wikipedia says pretty much the same and that it was an "oversight" in his first year of eligibility.

Re: Monk vs Reed
I haven't heard that he is a lock. I wouldn't trust Wikipedia - it now says he won't get in before Art Monk.

Re: Monk vs Reed
I haven't heard anything about him being a cinch either. At least not from a reliable source. I don't see him getting in before Monk.

Re: Monk vs Reed
I know that is what Wikipedia says but I have read it before and heard again this weekend. Just really burns my ass thats all. I can be reactionary at times and probably started this thread from my heart and not my head. If there is any justice, Art will be the next reciever in and it will be this summer.

Obviously written by a Bills fan.

Re: Monk vs Reed
Andre Reed holds the record for receiving yardage in the Super Bowl, I think. Plus, James Lofton was a teammate of his for many seasons, so there was competition for the ball in Buffalo just as there was here.
Still, the noise for Art Monk will get louder and louder as more receivers of his era are mentioned for the Hall. |

Re: Monk vs Reed
This is the problem they will face with not allowing Monk in. He had very strong numbers so Reed poses a dilemna. They want to put Reed in, because the media LOVED that Bills team, but if they do, they have to answer for Monk and they don't have one. Witness P.K. trying to explain his vote. He can't because the real reason he won't vote for Monk is that he has always despised the Washington Redskins. Period. It's insane and it's an insult. Every other dynasty team gets their props except us. The Packers, the Raiders, the Steelers, the 49ers, soon the Cowboys, and the Vikings, My God, the Vikings. Apparently we won all of our Super Bowls on the strength of Coach Gibbs and John Riggins which is amazing since Riggins didn't play in the last two. Good for you, John!
The reality is that the Bills were a very good team in a lousy conference and some folks just never got the memo. (But they went to four straight Super Bowls. You can't forget that, blah, blah, blah). Exactly. The AFC was that bad. They had to send somebody. I predict they will put Reed in before Monk and we'll hear how his impact was different than Monk's. (I just think that Reed really embodied the spirit of that team, yada, yada, yada). And they'll harp on the 19 TDs till they're blue in the face. Whatever they can think of to avoid telling the truth. And if you think I'm paranoid, check out the SportsCenter thread. More proof! I believe they have sent Tafkas to watch us. (Just kidding) (Maybe)

Re: Monk vs Reed
The noise for Monk being in the Hall is definitely getting louder. Particularly from ESPN, i.e. Tom Jackson, Michael Irvin, Tre Wingo (sp).
I feel a lot better about Monk getting now than I did last year around the same time. Peter King can only voice his opinion for so long. Monk will get in, and the Hall will be all the better for it!!! |

Rice owns the Super Bowl record for most career yards gained with 589. Reed is 3rd with 323. Rice also owns the record for single game yardage with 215, our Ricky Sanders is 2nd with 193. Rice pretty much owns most of the receiving records, surprise, surprise. |

Re: Monk vs Reed
We can talk about this all we want but the discussion is just so old now. It makes me tired to even think about it. It is so obviously a slight that what can you say? How do you prove to people who won't listen that 2+2=4? It just does.
Art Monk not being in the HOF is the biggest slight in all of professional Hall of Fames right now without fail. The race isn't even close. |
