Find a Remedy

Time to move on from the drama.

Offensively: Attack down field. Force the defence to breakdown instead of waiting for them to breakdown. Alot less Ladell Betts. Cooley is a natural H-Back. But he struggles in TE blocking and route running situations. Move him around and possibly play him in the slot so he wont get bumped at the line.

Defensively: Not much we can do to add depth. Play ADE more.

Special Teams: Continue to play that way.

Special Note:
I'm happy for Rock. He is a good guy and excellent redskin. I would like to see rock get more carries in the offence.

Dallas: They did a good job of making changes. They didnt let Glenn cover Moss. They made cooley fight to get off the line of scrimmage. They did a good job.

The coaches need to adjust to the players a little bit more. Ladell isnt Portis. Cooley isnt Gonzales.

I like the title of your post, it headlines one of my sentiments exactly in that the time has come to think of solutions (if we know of any) as opposed to repeatedly pointing out the problem. It's plain for the world to see we have problems, what is not so clear is how do we fix them? We have one of the highest paid, and most experienced coaching staffs in the history of the NFL and I'm counting on them to get it right. There are several things that have been repeatedly pointed out that we feel will bring us some relief, starting with the benching of Brunell, but knowing JG like I do, there's no way he's going to sit Brunell. What we must hope for is that the coaches will continue driving home the points of importance to these players, and that they will finally get it and begin to play the way we all feel they're capable.

If we lose to the Texans next week, I'll be dead by Monday morning.

Re: Find a Remedy

I have a simple cure - start winning in the trenches particularly on passing downs, and we'll start winning games. Brunell has virtually no time to get rid of the ball, hence the deep pass is taken away as a viable option. On the flip side, first Brad Johnson, then Bledsoe had all day to throw, especially on 3rd down. I hate how conservative Gregg Williams is coaching with Springs out. When was the last time he rushed 3 on a crucial 3rd and 10? Bledsoe must have had five seconds to work thru all his progressions before dumping to Marion Barber for the first down that set the stage for T. Glenn's TD that broke the game open.

Re: Find a Remedy

The changes we want most will not occur unless we either lose to the Texans or Mark Brunell gets seriously hurt. I'm not so sure, at this point, if we can even beat the Texans. Afterall, they do have a better Quarterback than we do and we don't have the passrush to alter his game; as Philly and Indy were able to do. I love my Skins but we are in a serious mess here.

Re: Find a Remedy

Getting Springs and Portis back to 100% will go a long way in curing our woes.

But we have alot of other issues that need immediate attention. The stupid penalties and mental errors. We're just not playing smart football right now.

We need to play smarter, and we need to play more efficiently on 3rd downs on both sides of the ball.

Re: Find a Remedy

I think at this point Springs literally is day to day and could return at any time.

Re: Find a Remedy

We have to find a way to run the ball consistently--obviously the return of Portis, if he's ready, we'll be a big lift. That brings the safties up, keeps teams out of nickle, and makes a passing game run by a QB with a weak arm possible. Remember, in KC Saunders had an awesome running game. Right now, the O-line's play in general has been shakey, so a lot is on them to step up. But if we can't run, we'll be in long yardage passing downs facing pass rush and nickle. And we've seen we have serious trouble with that!

I don't see the point of having Kenny Wright on the field at this point. THe return of Springs is obviously a big deal, but we need someone to step up and take the third corner role. We also need more pressure from our front four. Funny to find yourself missing Cedric Killings!

I'm willing to accept that some of this is learning the new offense. But come on. And like most others, I'm all for Campbell right now, but no way JG does that. Oh, well. I trust him, but this has always been one of his weakness (if you want to call it that)--he sticks too long with the vet at QB. So Gibbs ought to tell Brunnell to take more chances. Not losing is not enough. You've got to win.

Re: Find a Remedy

Remedy? A few kegs of beer, 2 boats, strippers and a lake...oh wait, that's been done already.

The OLine needs to step up. Too many false starts (hello? you know what the snap count is) and not giving Brunell enough time to throw. Brunell needs to hang in there a moment longer. There were several times on Sunday night that he had open people but didn't step up in the pocket to make the throw.

Defensively, the guys need to tackle better. A lot of whiffs and bad tackling in the first 2 games. Seemed to me that Marcus Washington got beat bad a few times by Jason Witten... GW needs to blitz more, let those who drop back into coverage take care of business.

Cartwright made a helluva runback, but right before that, I kept asking myself why is he back there? If you watch the replay, the Cowboys overpursued and Rock just happened to find the hole. Put Randle El and Thrash back there and let them go to town.

Re: Find a Remedy

It sucks that we lost to dallas but lets be realistic here..even before preseason and before the Vikings game the sunday night matchup, atleast for me, was always marked as a possible loss. This is not the end of the season guys lets not get ahead of ourselves. Many great teams have had bad weeks. All we need is a little spark to ignite our offense. Portis can and will give us that spark. As for the defense when Springs comes back and its 24 & 22 defending we will be in much much better shape!!!!

Re: Find a Remedy

It will be much easier for Brunell with portis back as well. With him out defenses knew they did not have to really focus in on our running attack which made it alot harder for Brunell to find the open man. I really think that we should put in Campbell, BUT Brunell might be able to get the job done when defenses are wondering whether Portis will be the one burn them or if its one of our speedy receivers.

Re: Find a Remedy

Yeah, we'll definitely need him soon. Especially in the home game against Dallas, to cover Terry Glenn, who in my opinion is the bigger threat between himself and Terrel Owens. (At least when they play against the Redskins). I'm not so sure if he'll make an immediate impact against the Texans though.
