Tackling
After holding out for the entire offseason and preseason, my agent has negotiated what I believe is a fair contract with The Warpath, and I am back.
I want to start where I feel like we left off at the end of last season - our special teams and our secondary need to learn how (and when) to tackle. I was at the game, so I didn't have the benefit of instant replay (the jumbotrons at fedex suck), but it looked like the secondary had trouble holding on to people. And, obviously, the last drive came down to Rogers (?) missing an open field tackle, which led to Taylor's face mask penalty, setting up the go ahead field goal. As for special teams, I realize a lot of that has to do with Hall dropping kickoffs at the 15 (or line driving them to the 1), and Frost, well, sucking. Is it that bad? Or did I miss something while I was distracted by the beers and the eye candy?

Re: Tackling
Tackling seemed like less on an issue. What seemed a bigger issue was our lack of coverage downfield. Only like once did our secondary fail to wrap up a tackler and give up a first down. Johnson picked us apart last night. We got decent outside pressure and he was able to get rid of the ball quickly. Minny is gonna be a good team if they can play like they did last night I think.

Re: Tackling
My question is: where was Andre Carter? Was his name mentioned even once? Was he just swallowed up by Hutchinson and Mckinney?
I normally wouldn't second guess G Williams, but maybe, just maybe, he didn't settle on the right combination of defensive packages for this game. I know he was limited by an injured secondary (Prioleau getting injured just made it worse), but we didn't come close to stopping the Vikes. A lot of their 3 and outs were due to dropped balls. |
