Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
There is a very good reason that he hasn’t started a game since 97 and he showed why last night.

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
I'd like to see him play with the first team offense before I write him off completely.
Our backup OL was horrible. But his overall decision making wasn't very good. He should have thrown 2 picks and the 2nd one would have been a TD. |

Yup, I was just going to say what Matty said. To his credit, he was about to get sacked almost every play.

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
I said it last night, but I thought he looked okay when he wasnt't getting pressured. He seemed to make the right reads and got the ball to the open man.
However, I guess any NFL QB should be able to do that with no one rushing them. On the other hand, if a defender was within 2 yards of him it seemed like he was going to mess himself.

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
I could almost hear the Homer Simpson shriek when he was being pressured.

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
he was behind what i consider as the worst back-up o-linemen in the league. He is like a coach. He knows the offense. Al Saunders knows the offense but probably can't QB it. Collins is important as he gives advice to brunell and campbell. Wouldn't be surprised if he coaches under saunders in the future. They are so high up on him and how he helps out. Like gibbs says, at the end of a segment at a meeting about a formation he and saunders ask collins to talk about what he knows, from a QB's perspective, in that formation.
If he is as good as he is said to be you can see him being a QB coach under saunders in the future. I mean, i don't know his skills as a coach but gibbs says he is crucial to campbell's development and i am sure he could do a hell of a job with the information he knows. |

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
he appeared to be scared of his own shadow last night.
i guess it,s called preseason football when you play everybody inwhich joe did last night. cincy on the other hand wanted this game in the worst way but again it,s just preseason.

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
Campbell played behind the same o-line or worse--he didn't look like a scared rabbit. Collins hit a few nice intermediate routes--the bread and butter of Saunders offense. But, come on. THat was weak.
He'll get a few more chances, so we'll see.

Safety, INT, Center/QB exchange fumble.
It was a pretty bad performance. The excuses don't matter (and many can be made). What happens in the next 3 pre-season games does. He certainly left the door to the #2 slot on the depth chart pretty wide open.

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
I hope Collins never has to play in the regular season. That was one of the ugliest performances I've ever seen, next to Alex Smith's regular season game against the Colts last year where he was 9/23, 4 INTs, 2 fumbles (1 lost) for an 8.5 QB rating.

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
like BigSkin said, he's valuable as a resource for the offense. If he's as helpful & team oriented as they say he is, we're lucky he signed with us.
Campbell looked good, but keep in mind that during the regular season we won't be running a "vanilla" offense & his comfort level & poise may be quite different. They're expected to learn a lot in a short period. That's my only concern w/JC. I hope he looked so comfortable because he's been studying the offense like mad. We will need him to play this year. It would be a minor miracle if brunell played all 16+playoffs. |

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
the only way he is valuable to the skins is if he never, and i mean never, sets foot on the field and has to take a couple of snaps. i didnt realize how horrible he was until he came to washington

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
I've only heard that he KNOWS the offense. I've never heard anyone say he could PLAY in the offense. He obviously can't.
If we brought him in for an emergency QB (if Brunell, Campbell and Randel El are injured) and he's only meant to be someone who can give Campbell pop quizzes on the playbook, it was a good decision to bring him in. If anyone ever envisioned him playing...uh oh. |
