Redskins Top Plays of 2005...Rank All-Time??
So the Redskins just did the list on redskins.com of the top plays of the 2005 season.
Obviously the top play was the Brunell to Moss pass #2 at Dallas, but really the top 4-5 plays could have been the top four or five plays of the past 15 years and maybe even more. My question is where does the Brunell to Moss play rank in the Redskins all time top plays and what would you put in front of it, and were any of the other top plays from redskins.com worthy or being discussed as some of the top plays in Redskins history?

My personal favorite is Darrell Green chasing down Dorsett.
Close second is the punt return for TD against chicago in the 88 playoffs. The Brunell to moss play has to be up there. Monday night against the Cowboys on the night they put the "Big 3" in the ring of honor. Nothing is better than that! |

Re: Redskins Top Plays of 2005...Rank All-Time??
I think the Darryl Grant TD vs. Dallas in January, 1983 is my #1. 70 Chip a week later vs. Miami is #2. I think Brunell to Moss is definitely top 10 all time.
One play I thought should have been in this year's top ten but wasn't was Lamar Marshall's int. vs. Philly--a great athletic play by him that was absolutely critical to us winning that game and thus making the playoffs.

I'd really have to give it some thought, but Brunell to Moss I and II are definitely up there when you talk about the most memorable plays in team history. In fact that win over Dallas to me was one of the most memorable wins I've ever witnessed. Truly one for the ages.

For sure they are in the top 10 of the last 10 years or so. But I think they don't carry as much weight because the game was not not terribly meaningful like it wasn't a playoff game or a game to clinch a playoff spot. But they def. are high on the list

Re: Redskins Top Plays of 2005...Rank All-Time??
Given the painful history between us and them, the score at the time of the first Redskins TD, the incredible feeling when the second Redskins TD was scored and the brutal hits from the Redskins D to preserve the win I'd have to say it's the greatest victory (including SB's) I've ever seen.
I love watching the video highlights of the last 3:55 of that game. Beautiful. |

Re: Redskins Top Plays of 2005...Rank All-Time??
I would say that if you factor in the improbability of the play, those TD passes may collectively be the greatest plays in team history. Although with all the history of the franchise, we should wait some time before dubbing Brunell to Moss as the greatest play in franchise history.
70 Chip is the most easily identifible play with the Redskins, and is no. 1 in my book, at least for right now.

Re: Redskins Top Plays of 2005...Rank All-Time??
What about Dexter Manley destroying Danny white in the '82 NFC Championship game? That has to be in the top ten.
#1 70 Chip #2 Darrell Green punt return TD #3 "Saunders beats Haynes, 80 yards touchdown, hello sports fans!" SB XXII The beginning of the Golden Quarter. #4 Santana Moss beats the Cowboys #5 Darryl Grant int TD #6 Ken Houston stops Cowboy Walt Garrison at the goal line. #7 Kurt Gouveia (the man with every vowel in his last name) picks off Jim Kelley's first pass in the second half of SB XXVI to essentially win the game... #8 Dexter kills Danny White #9 Bobby Mitchell's "God did that move" against the Browns. #10 Darrell Green breaks up a pass against Minnesota to put the Skins in SB XXII #11 Theismann knocks a 5 yard TD INT out of a Dolphins defenders hand in SB XVII. That's my quick list. I Prolly forgot something... |

Re: Redskins Top Plays of 2005...Rank All-Time??
This is going way back in a loss....but Mike Bass returning Yepremian's blocked field goal/ lame duck pass in Super Bowl VII gave a 11 year old boy hope that the game could be won. It at least kept the Dolphins from having a shutout. A funny play that still brings back fond memories of making it to the big game for the first time.
Mr. Green returning the punt against Chicago was pure magic, especially when you found out he injured himself leaping over a tackler on the way to the end zone. In the replay you see it happen and even when he lets up a bit, still, no one can catch him. |

Re: Redskins Top Plays of 2005...Rank All-Time??
Thiesmann knocking his deflected pass out of a Dophins defenders hands in the SB is not a flashy play but it was a heads up play that went a long game way to winning the game. The "Golden Quareter" collectivelly is top 10 material, and the Brunnell/Moss play to me is a top 5 play.

In the last 20 years...
1.Brunell to Moss (both) to win! 2. Sean Taylor fumble recovery for a TD in Tampa 3. Sean Taylor fumble recovery for a TD in Phili 4. Cooley TD against Dallas (all 3) 5. Arrington INT for TD against Weinke/ Carolina.
