The Skins One Concern

If you were asked to pick the one concern you have about the skins team what would pick and why. It can be a player, secondary, Oline etc...

I'm going to say that Brunell is my biggest concern. He had a great year for use but seemed to fade toward the end of the season. I don't know if it was due to injury, his arm just got tired, or the teams we faced were just better. We have all the weapons on O for him this year but will he be able to get the ball to them and can he keep up his level of play in the post season. I'm not as concerned with the beging of the year as I am with the last 1/4 and post season.

O-line. We don't have much depth, the whole key to the offense will be time to find a speedy receiver or holes for Portis to dart through. We need quality backups, if and when we lose someone on the line.

Safety depth. Last year, we had a full rotation of safeties, which allowed players like Taylor and Clark to be rested enough to make plays when it counted.

I think that Gibbs will make the right decision on Brunell, like he did last year. Im not to sure how far along Cambell is but sometimes you just have to throw a young qb in the water and see if he can swim with the big fish. It worked out for Pittsburg. Hes definately gonna have some growing pains. Look how long we waited for Pat Pansy to get over his growing pains. ............My biggest concern is our o-line, we gotta get some depth at every position on the whole line. Because last year someone got hurt and we were screwed. We had a center playin guard and our back-up tackle was 90 (love ya Ray). You should have quality back-ups at every position, but the game is won and lost in the trenches.

Re: The Skins One Concern

I think our weakest link on the team is the punting and kicking. Our punter absolutely stinks and Hall is a injury waiting to happen. I have never seen a team have as many problems with kickers as we do. I would say our line, but I think with the young guys we had last couple of years are probably good enough to fill in, plus we signed a vet backup that can play guard or center. Brunell, will actually be a little more fresh towards the end of this year as opposed to last year. He has more options at receiver, a better game plan. He will take less hits, and have to scramble less. Plus, Portis will be able to find bigger holes. Brunell will make the PROBOWL this year. Career numbers. Campbell wont play unless Brunell goes down. Which I think Campbell will do fine, but not playing if Brunell is 100%.

I think that to Gibbs, Cambell is our Schroeder. I would call Schroeder the most underated player of the 1st Gibbs era. He never started a super bowl, but he started for a lot of wins that got us there.

Re: The Skins One Concern

offensive health/depth (they're intertwined)... if we lose samuels, thomas, or jansen its game over. Losing brunell (or having him play hurt) would probably be really bad too, but there is an off chance that the talent is good enough (WR/RB/OL etc) that campbell or collins could make due.

defensively, besides the starter's hole at ROLB, the depth is pretty good.

New system.
It takes a while for a team to gel.

also, Special teams. we need a punter and a reliable and healthy kicker.

Definitely punting is a major concern. I'm not sold on Frost as our guy.

Is there not someone in the world who has a huge leg, but doesn't necessarily kick perfect spirals?

From this thread's title I thought Dan Snyder's plane had crashed...

I'd say my biggest concern is also O-line depth. It was so painful watching the line in our last playoffs game. I always liked Randy Thomas, but it is amazing how much worse our line was without him.

Re: The Skins One Concern

Punting, I guess. I am hopeful that we won't have to punt very often this year.
O-line - With Randy out it looked pretty average at best. I wonder if Brunell's performance decline and Randy's injury were related? With a healthy Randy and Rabach.
QB - I think Collins will be the backup barring a super stellar preseason by Campbell.
Defense - I don't see a concern unless ST has to don a new monocolored uniform. They should have him make a cameo in the Prison Break series!
Running - Portis and Betts make me smile.
Receiving - they make it fun to run.

Re: The Skins One Concern

I agree with the guys who are concern with the O line and its depth. What I don't like about the line condition is that we have several guys coming off of surgeries....
Randy Thomas: broken fibula- he should be ready soon, but still not 100%
Casey Rabach: recovering from shoulder surgery and a deep gashed from ATV accident. He may not be ready by training camp. This could be spell out bad for us. I know we drafted two interior O-line men.
Jansen still has sore thumb.
Samuel had something done to his knee.

That's 4 out of 5 O line men coming off of last years injuries.... We need depth on O line
