League News (4/2/2006)
NFL | Pro Bowl could move
Sun, 2 Apr 2006 08:11:34 -0700 Dave Reardon, of the Star Bulletin, reports the NFL could move a Pro Bowl from Hawaii, after the 2007 game. The NFL wants to hold its all-star game and other events in foreign countries, retiring league commissioner Paul Tagliabue said at league meetings last week. The league has a five-year contract with the state of Hawaii to play the Pro Bowl there through 2009, but there is a clause that allows the league to move the game to another venue during the life of the contract by extending the commitment to Hawaii on the back end. The 2007 game is scheduled for Aloha Stadium Feb. 10 and won't be moved, according to the league. Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann would like to see a preseason game in Hawaii and feels the NFL owes Hawaii something, if they move the Pro Bowl from Hawaii. NFL | Organization protesting local news camera ban Sun, 2 Apr 2006 10:46:58 -0700 Bob Wolfley, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the Radio-Television News Directors Association drafted and sent a letter to NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue, protesting the vote to ban all television cameras from the sidelines except for the cameras that belong to the broadcasting network. The letter said the ban was a discriminatory and unprecedented policy and that "restricting the rights of the electronic media to gather news in publicly funded stadiums raises significant First Amendment questions." While the wording of policy is not available, the Houston Chronicle reports the ban includes any network, including ESPN or the NFL Network, when they are not broadcasting the game. Browns | Team going back to old uniforms Sun, 2 Apr 2006 19:58:00 -0700 Tony Grossi, of the Plain Dealer, reports Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner is bringing back the team's old uniforms for next season, including gray face masks, original striping on jersey sleeves and the old, darker shade of brown. The team will wear only white pants and alternate between brown and white jerseys - never orange. |

Re: League News (4/2/2006)
someone suggested that adding these things to the old threads with 100s of similar entries results in them not reading any of it and missing things they might want to know about... I already knew that was happening, but since someone else finally agreed, i'll try a couple more things like the Redskins News Threads I've done and see what the reaction is.
Is this more helpful, or is it making the board too spammy? Remember that after a day or so the comments will stop and these threads will fade down into forum oblivion, just like everything else... |

Re: League News (4/2/2006)
I'd like the camera ban lifted, it seems like a truly stupid idea. The only time i'd be against moving the pro bowl is if it meant moving it off my TV. beyond that, go for it. The game sucks anyways since a week in a foreign scheme isn't enough to avoid multitudes of broken plays and sloppiness. Adding more jet lag won't really make it any worse. The only reason fans watch is to see all their favorite players. I really did like seeing CJ play DB this year... they should do more of those types of things.

Re: League News (4/2/2006)
the camera ban is not a good thing.that means the nfl only controls all of what the public would see.since they are so image conscience you would only see the good stuff.as far as the pro bowl, who cares?i only watch it if there is nothing else on or if there is a shitload of skins in it

Honestly, until it becomes the WORLD football league, keep our sport in our damn country.

Re: League News (4/2/2006)
Any other uniform changes for next year that anyone is aware of?
Just curious. It seems like every year someone changes their unis exept the Skins. I guess I should take that back, the white-on-white was not a uniform change, but for all purposes it acted like one. |

Re: League News (4/2/2006)
I was actually not a fan of the white on white look. But since we won like 6 games in a row using that uniform, hey I'm all for it.

That translates to a market, one the NFL is keen to exploit. I think a good idea would be to play the PB in other countries to help spread the word. Playing pre-season games over here is OK, but too often we see a game full of wannabees competing for roster spots, with the starters on for one or two series. Playing the PB abroad means less impact on the players (their last game of the year anyway) from travel, as opposed to a pre-season game. For the fans it means you are guaranteed to see top players all game long, even if they swap in and out and you only see them for a few series. |

Nothing against people from other countries, but seriously it pisses me off that fans from THIS country miss out on their teams (yes, the Cardinals have fans).

Re: League News (4/2/2006)
Because I won't lie, I'd be furious if I had to miss a Skins game because it was being played overseas. I'm saying this for the Pro Bowl too, because if this starts where does it stop.
But to that end, I would actually be very open to more countries getting football teams and there eventually BEING a World Football League. I think that would be highly entertaining.
