I agree 100% with those guys. Those are the core "Redskins" who I am looking too, to lead the team.

Lavar Arrington
Sean Taylor Chris Samuels Jon Jansen Clinton Portis Laveranues Coles Patrick Ramsey I think you can make a case for Smoot, but until he steps up and becomes a number 1 corner I have to go with Samuels. He'll get right this year and he and Jon Jansen will be bookend tackles again. |

Jansen, Samuels, Ramsey, Portis, Smoot, Arrington, Taylor
I love Coles, but I think eventually Taylor Jacobs can replace him. |

I think Smoot wants to be here. He has connected well with the fans over the past 18 months, and I think he's the type that will value that type of experience over insane amounts of money. I think Jansen could also be a Skin for life.

arrington
washington coles portis mccants jansen thomas a lot of people seem to forget that thomas was the most consistent o-lineman last year and if he could do that with spurrier's "unique" blocking schemes, i can't wait to see what he does for gibbs the next five years and more. Smoot, Janson, Taylor, Ramsey, Samuels, Thomas, Morton are the ones I would keep. Smoot takes it over Arrington because Smoot plays like a Redskin and doesn't squable over 6.5 mil in a 60+ mill contract ...well not yet

This is very tough to pick just seven. Off the top of my head:
Smoot Arrington Ramsey Coles Portis Jansen Taylor But then, thruandthru brings up a good point about randy thomas and I love marcus washington, and it seems like barrow has emerged right away as a leader, and we invested too much in brunell at least for the next year or two to discount him, and what about john hall?

Ramsey
Coles Smoot Janson Thomas Samuels Lavar I didnt want to vote for anyone who didn't play for the team last year, so I didnt include Taylor because he hasnt done anything for us yet. If LaVar really wants to play for the redskins I want him in there. |

If he turns into the emotional leader of our team, he deserves big money. We should be paying our leaders instead of Arrington gobloads of money. I'm still disgruntled he hasn't taken the leadership helm over.

Ramsey, Arrington, Smoot, Jansen, Washington, Portis, Coles
Not in any particular order, but I would never put a rookie on the list, the jury is still out. I'm sure at this point in '99 Chargers fans were making the same list and putting Ryan Leaf on it. I put Arrington and Washington on it because a good set of LBs can mask alot of other weaknesses on a defense. Portis and Coles are both playmakers and can change the momentum of a game on any given play. Remember that INT that Ramsey through and Coles chased the guy down and knocked the ball out? That's a playmaker. Ramsey becaused I think he is everything I would want in a QB if I were coaching a team. I love that guy! Smoot and Jansen seem to be team leaders and that is very, very important when you are trying to win back to back superbowls :-)

Ok, I'm going over the 7, but these are my thoughts/hopes...
Redskins for life: Smoot - "I hate Dallas!" What else needs to be said??? Jansen Ramsey Arrington (pending his contract situation....I hope it doesn't happen, but if he ends up disgruntled with the organization and keeps his agents: Bye-bye LaVar...and don't let the door hit you.....) Taylor McCants - Yes, McCants...he's a local guy and could end up being a very good, dependable #2/3 WR for a long, long time. Cooley - Everyone is very high on Taylor, and understandably so (myself included), but Cooley could very easily slide up to this kind status in a year or two, especially in Gibbs' offense. Other core Redskins (acquired from other teams): Coles Hall Portis Thomas Morton Washington |
