That is good news. I know if I was a free agent and my favorite childhood team was recruiting me I'd be inclined to play for them for less money.

It's all about the money folks.

If Snyder wants someone they rarely leave town without a deal in hand.

Yup. I mean when you think about it, you're a young guy in the NFL. You go out to eat with the coaching staff, get a great meal, eat a great dessert, chat it up with the coaches, etc. Then right after you finish your chocolate mousse pie the Danny pulls out his checkbook and says so Matty, I'm prepared to stroke a check to you, right now at this minute, for $8 million dollars. If you sign the deal now, the check is yours. But the offer's only good as long as you're here, if you leave we'll have to negotiate all over again.

You're looking across the table at him, and he's got his checkbook open, pen in hand; all the while coach Gibbs and Williams are telling you what a privelege it is to be a Redskin, and maybe Chris Cooley is there telling you hey man these guys aren't jerking your chain. It's a sweet place to be.

It's hard to say no to that. How do you ask a guy to put his checkbook away in that situation? Snyder's great at making guys feel like they need to take the bird in hand.

Also, I feel the need to give some kudos to Snyder on his salesmanship. He has developed the reputation around the league as a guy that is willing to shell out big bucks. That may have cost us when he was going after Deion and Mark Carrier, but it's paying dividends now. Now, whenever a free agent hears that the Redskins are interested in him, this is the first place he wants to visit. And then once he visits, Snyder rarely lets him get away. Snyder has developed that reputation and he's using it to his benefit rather than letting the media's criticism get to him.

It's a pretty great thing, when you think about it. Imagine you're a free agent, and your agent says hey there are four teams interested in you: the Bears, the 49ers, the Colts, and the Redskins. What do you want to do?

Um agent, we're going to Washington first.

I said in a previous post that I didn't want to sign Lloyd and Randle-El. I just hope the money doesn't run out. Or the distrubution of balls.

I'm with you. Why are we going after him when have other major needs right now? We should concentrate on re-signing key free agents like Ryan Clark, Khary Campbell, and Ade Jimoh and look for a TE, pass rushing DE, and 3rd string QB in free agency. Weakside linebacker and nickleback can be addressed in the 2nd and 4th rounds, and depth at any positions like C-G, S (assuming we don't re-sign Omar Stoutmire), WR (preferably a return specialist), TE, DL, and/or possibly help at P and K could be addressed in the lower rounds of the draft. I can't understand why we're looking at guys like Randle El and Archuleta when we have other glaring needs. It will just hurt our cap in the long run and possibly hurt team cohesion by not allowing us to re-sign other guys. :confused-

Bears tried the sneak attack. Trying to sign Randle-El before he's done with us. Ha!

good post, and i really think the wasted money and the mediots bashing actually helps us by sustaining the big spending rep danny has. the media thinks its terrible and continually bash him, but i think that helps keep his name in the headlines and has every agent keeping us in the back of their minds.
