Ready for a set back in 2006

The skins will take a step back in 2006. we are going to have to cut alot of good players and wont be able to sign a FA'a to help our team out. This is another sign that pro-sports is all about the money. The owners and players assoc. need to sit in a room and settle this and come to an agreement that some where in the middle. It just makes me sick that we finally has a decent season and next year we will have to take a step back. But i guess the skins front office can only blame themselves with all those big FA signings a couple of years ago for over the hill players.

Re: Ready for a set back in 2006

I have a hard time blaming the front office for the mess the mess that will be the Redskin's roster as of tomorrow. Sure they've made some really stupid calls in the past that have cost us a ton of money, but who really thought a year (or more) ago that the CBA wouldn't get worked out and that the salary cap wouldn't move up? The Skins would have only been between $5 to $10 million over, which could be a lot worse, if this crap had all gotten worked out.

Look at it this way, I'd rather have a team that is over the cap and competative than a team that is way under and doesn't have a chance in hell at even getting into the postseason (ie, the Browns). It just sucks that the CBA is going to hell.

Weigh in on the "over-merging of threads" thread. That goes for everyone else, regardless of whether you agree.

I brought it up as a heads-up as opposed to the thread going 2-3 pages before being merged with others.

That's fair. I wasn't attacking your decision to post that comment. I simply wanted your input in the other thread as well. Thanks.

i doubt our core of players will get broken up which is why im not really worried. this forcing us to build through the draft really might be good for us in the end

except for the death of the draft following this year.

death of the draft? anyways, we would only need the draft for this year since there would be no cap the following year...this year we would have to pay extra attention to the draft, maybe aquire more picks, and lay a foundation for the future. seasons after that, we could get free agents and keep most players we wanted, unless they wanted to leave

Well, it's unclear what free agency in the future will look like. On the one hand, because players don't become free agents until they have spent 6 seasons in the NFL. So the number and quality of players hitting free agency will diminish. On the other hand, we'll be able to outbid any other team for players. So, while the pool of free agents gets smaller, our chances of landing free agents we target skyrockets.

Re: Ready for a set back in 2006

Some interesting comments on ESPNews today, the question was what happens if you don't get below the cap? Teams will get fined and lose draft picks.. The commentators were saying that a team like the Redskins might not care about that, it would essentially become a luxury tax.. I'd be interested to see if Snyder has the balls to test the NFL on this..

As for the team in '06, the thread I started Tuesday about what we would look like didn't scare me all that much.. We'd keep 18 of 22 starters, depth would be a major issue but it's not like we had great depth (Cory Raymer anyone?) in '05 anyways.

Are the Eagles gonna benefit the most from this?

Probably. Espn.com is reporting that the Eagles are likely to be more aggressive this offseason. They'll have their choice of some pretty good free agents come Monday. Ugggg, I so want to keep the Eagles in the NFC East basement.

I really don't know how this will all come out to tell you thurth. I read that players and agents will have a hard time getting deals do if the CBA is not renewed. First it will be a buyers market and also agents don't wanted to tie a player up in a bad deal with a uncap year's coming! The fact NO one real knows but the team egg heads!
