Madden 2007 cover athlete!
Well I found out who the cover athlete yesterday for Madden 2007. It is none other than number 26 for the Washington Redskins Clinton Portis. I'm praying to the gods on the no madden curse I swear.

At least Portis is getting some props. I don't believe in that curse. It's one of those "thousand qualifications" things. Like if he misses a game due to injury people will say it's the curse. However, if he breaks a leg (God forbid) or anything season-ending then I WILL believe it.

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
Yeah it is nice to see him getting and the skins gettimg some respect. I never thought I would see a Redskins anytime soon at least on the cover. Now I've been trying to find confirmation online, but can't. I was in EB Games yesterday and they have him on the cover and best buy is advertising him also, so I'm pretty sure it is him, just not 100%

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
woah... alexander posts nfl records and gets the MVP and portis gets the cover? I can't complain, but it does seem a bit strange.

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
Portis is tough as hell. All the times I've seen Alexander run, I'm like "DAMN he goes down like a ton of bricks when someone hits him." Portis has moves, has personality (which I'm sure if what gave him a leg up) and breaks tackles. Alexander had the benefit of running behind Hutchinson and Jones the entire season, with the addition of a Pro Bowl quarterback and fullback to take some pressure off of him.
Sure, Portis had a great line as well, but he actually broke some tackles and made some people miss unlike Alexander.

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
Of course if you're going strictly with stats, Alexander would have been the clear choice, but when people think of running backs I bet Portis comes to mind before Alexander. It might be just because we are Skins fans but honestly even when he broke the record, I was like, "Oh yeah, that RB from Seattle is above average. I forgot about him."

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
I've heard this rumor too but I haven't heard anything official.
I would prefer he not be on the cover simply because of the dreaded curse. Has anyone actually had a good or healthy season when on the cover? |

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
Got that right. Why can't they just draft something temporary to extend the cap? Save revenue sharing arguments for later.

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
Check this out. Gamblers have found new ways to screw their kids out of their college tuition.
Bets open on Madden cover star Online gambling house WagerWeb is taking money on next year's cover athlete for Madden 2007. We may only be through week 13 of the 17-week regular season of the NFL, but one online gambling site, WagerWeb, is already looking at next year's football games. The site is taking real-money bets on who will grace the cover of next year's Madden NFL game. The odds-on favorite is Colts QB Peyton Manning, at -200 ($200 down to win $100), followed by Bengals chucker Carson Palmer (+200--$100 down to win $200) and Seahawks touchdown machine Shaun Alexander (+400--$100 down to win $400). If that weren't enough, further money can be placed on whether the 2007 cover athlete will fall victim to the Madden cover curse and miss consecutive games due to injury next season.
