Talking Gonna Be in DC...

Well, after 5 1/2 years, I have finally finished my enlistment in the Navy. I am going to D.C. to out-process from May 18th through 27th and am going to have a lot of free time on my hands during those two weeks. Anyone on the Warpath have any suggestions? I was hoping there might be a mini-camp going on but haven't researched it yet...

Good for you for finishing that out. Just go shopping at the Redskins store, that would keep me busy for hours.

Mini-Camp is this Weekend!

Mini-Camp is this Weekend, and it is closed to the public.

As a D.C./Northern Virginia Native, may I recommend you tour D.C. instead!
Washington Monument, Lincoln, Jefferson, Supreme Court, Congress, and my favorite (since I grew up on property that used to belong to his family!), Mt. Vernon, home of George Washington!

But I thought they still processed sailors out, here in Norfolk!

They usually do, but if you're stationed overseas when your enlistment is up they transfer you back to your state-side headquarters for out-processing. I fall under the Naval Media Center in DC so, that's where I'm headed. I plan on touring the city, and I think I'm going to go to the DC United game on May 19th.

Ah!

Ah! Yes, that round futboll we call soccer!

I have no use for it.

Although, if one of my grandbabies (#4 on the way) starts playing, maybe Memaw & Dad-daddy will have to trip down to see. They live in Elizabeth City N.C. Our grandbabies are so much fun, I wish Memaw & I had them first!

You will have a great time at RFK, watching DC United. I was a season ticket holder for the first two championship seasons, before moving to Boston.
Be sure to go to the Screaming Eagles fan club tail gate. As of two years ago, for $5 you get all you can eat hambugers and hot dogs and two beers (or soft drinks). Good deal. I forget the parking lot number it is held, but I know it is one of the only two closet parking lots that goes right up to the side of RFK.

Hey Backrow...

I was born and raised in Norfolk right by ODU (Navy brat... surprise surprise) and moved to the DC area about 2 years ago for work. Have you been there long? That is a place that has changed a thousand fold over the past ten years or so... and definitely for the better! It's a pretty cool town.

Man-O-Man.... I do miss the water....

Less crowded!

Norfolk/VA Beach/Chesapeake/Hampton/Newport News are less crowded and by far, less expensive than DC. The biggest traffic problems are going back and forth across the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, and of course, traveling on I-264 toward the Beach! As a Navy Auditor, I travel to DC at least once per year, sometimes twice or more. I miss living there, but I'm now looking forward to retirement and maybe moving to Elizabeth City! Now, that little historical city, my friends is both slow, and cheap! Not to mention, near both of our kids, and maybe my dad if he decides to move there.
Our daughter keeps cranking out granddaughters, and my son, who is both a business owner and a Youth Pastor, has our 6 months old grandson. So, ask me if I'm loving life right now! Go ahead, ask me!

What property was that? My Grandparent's lived behind Mt.Vernon.For 40 yrs. Me and my brother used to walk down the shore of the Potomac at low tide and sneek in. I love that area! Sunny Jurgsen lived on the same St. It really suck's we sold that house!

Riggo44 & Smootsmack!

Riggo44: Plymouth Haven, near Ft. Hunt, then moved to Waynewood in my early teens. George Washington, If you remember owned a lot more property back then. He would actually send posts back home during the Revolutionary War to find out if his Overseer/manager was implementing his ideas for better crop production, and grain distribution. His Working Grist Mill helped him in his business ventures. A details person, he loved working his property in order to obtain better crop yield!
Never knew Sonny, but watched enough of his games! I understand he could sling the FB 60 yds. backward over his head!

SmootSmack: Yes! Except for my troublesome knee, and my Allergies!

Well I was born in D.C and raised just outside the city in P.G county.I only recently moved up to Baltimore for work.If you are looking for a good time in the city you should check out Georgetown or Adams Morgan. There are plenty of bars (if you drink) and places to eat.Its a real nice atmosphere with people walking around everywhere. You do need to be careful and need to have someone around who knows the city because it is a very confusing city to navigate and one wrong turn could leave you somewhere you dont want to be.If you are into going to a "gentlemans" club try good guys or camelot.Good luck and have fun in my city.

yeah the pollen problems in this area suck and it doesn't help that it's almost always completely different weather conditions from day to day. and it sucks that almost every attractive women in the area is a smoker, lol.
