Hiring Saunders gives fans a warm feeling inside
After a long conversation with a close friend of mine, who I might add is a Pats fan, it came to me. Al Saunders, "one of the brightest offensive minds" was coming to Washinton as a coordinator...not a coach, but a coordinator. This tells me something. After making it through the last six seasons without a winning record, the Redskins appear to be moving in the right direction. Saunders had the chance to become a head coach for either the Bills or the dreaded Raiders. Now, I think Saunders would prefer to coach with Gibbs rather then work for Davis but, this tells me that our new offensive coordinator sees something in our team. Some people look at the nice little contract he signed as a good enough reason to come but, at 59 years old, do you really think he's ready to leave the game on a low note. Let me answer that for you...no. Seems to me, he realizes what we have in place and thinks he might have the final touch to take "us" to the big show. This also tells me, if Saunders sees it, so do the other coaches around the league.
Now for the hard part...waiting until next season.

Gibbs has always had Ex or later head coaches....started with Jim Hannifan from the cardinals as assistant head coach/offense. He took Bugel under his wing, thus creating the Hogs......GW and many more.....I think its a great stepping stone to be under Gibbs, not only for resume, but LEARNING!

Re: Hiring Saunders gives fans a warm feeling inside
I think aversion to Al Davis in Oakland has been a factor hurting that club for years now. Shanahan was there and couldn't deal with Davis. Ditto Gruden. I think its a job that you would have to be desperate to take, which is a shame because I think they have decent talent there. It makes you wonder exactly what it is that Davis does that is so unbearable. You'd think people could stand humoring the old guy for the sake of a HC job.

Incredible move by Gibbs and the Redskins. Surprising, but does nothing but help our chances this coming season.
