Darryl Tapp

"Darryl Tapp has one of the best bursts off the snap of any DE in college football. His pass-rushing has become steadily better as his career with VT has advanced, and that's always a good thing to see. He plays bigger than his size, using his smallish height to gain leverage, and has a huge motor that never shuts off. Also, Tapp is a tremendous special-teams player, a trait becoming more and more common of VT's stars."

Anybody think this guy can be the pass-rushing DE we need?

Yeah, good special teamers and punks. That is what they are becomming know as. I'd stress the punk part more that anything else.

Re: Darryl Tapp

Would you REALLY put Tapp in the punk category? He's the model citizen of the Tech football team. I know that might not be saying much, but read a few draft reports on the guy and you'll change your mind.

Re: Darryl Tapp

There's actually a chance he would fall to us. According to most draft boards he's not the "top" rusher that most teams are after. In addition to that, there's not a lot of teams in need of DEs besides us.

Re: Darryl Tapp

Every NFL team has Tapp on their Radar.

If you ask any Cowgirl fan, they've got at least 3 picks in the 1st round, and have already selected six times! Tapp's been selected twice! E-girls have him tapped once, G-nomes have him slated to tap next!
(Sarcasm intended!)

There are few unearthed gems out there. If you find a mock draft board right now deeper than 3 rounds, the known names are now known by all 32 teams, and by their 3 or 4 fans!

If you find a complete mock draft board with all rounds shown, 2 of those 4 fans of those 32 teams already know, and if they know, the team scouting department knows as well!

Mock Drafts are great for listing the prospects, but in no certain order! Teams sometimes target needs as opposed to best player available.

I love Mocks for the prospective names, but the B&G rarely seem to draft the way you or I might!

This is just biased ignorance. Say what you want about VA Tech football, but they stepped up to the plate and cut all ties with Marcus Vick after his brother was the most beloved football player in school history, his brother literally gave millions of dollars back to the school, and Marcus showed that at least physically, he was likely to be one of the top 3 qbs in the country next year in college ball. I applaud the Hokies for having the hootzpa to let go of such a talent based upon principal. That being said, Tapp is too small. The Hokies had another DE a few years ago, Corey Moore (?) I think was his name. He was too small to play DE in the NFL, and so is Tapp.

Re: Darryl Tapp

Honestly, I'm a Tech fan but don't give them THAT much credit on releasing Marcus. It took a LOT of outside pressure for them to make that decision.

I think Marcus was gone even if there was no outside pressure. It had be be a tough decision because of michael Vick and all he has done for the school and I think thats what caused the little delay from VT's decision. If you think about Vt football it was Vick that realy put their team on the map. Marcus realy but VT and his brother in a bad situation and I'm sure they spoke with Michael before they announced their decision so he would understand why they had to do what they where doing.

Re: Darryl Tapp

the reason tapp will fall (unless his combine is great) is he's 6'1" and he's not really fast for a pass rushing DE (he's also light at 215). He's got good skills, but his naturals aren't stellar. He may even be better to bulk up and play at DT where height isn't as important and where he'd be very fast for the position. Since we need a DT and a DE, he'd be a good pickup and should be a 2nd or 3rd rounder. at DT he'd have time to adjusst ince we've got a decent 1/2 right now, and if he's instant impact or a good situational pass rusher, we've got a spot for immediate contribution there.
