Reggie Bush's Contract

How much is the guy worth?. Would you be willing to pay someone just out of college 25 million signing bonus? I just can't believe anyone would be willing to cough-up that kind of dough. I see a potential long, long holdout.

Perhaps, but I do not think there will be a holdout. I would not be willing to give a bonus that high, just because I am still not a 100 percent believer in Bush. He is amazing, but he had <15 carries per game, and in the NFL it is likely he might get around 40ish. That could potentially do alot of damage to his small frame. But hey Barry Sanders was about the same size, and look what he did.

Re: Reggie Bush's Contract

Guess what, Bush will be the highest paid rookie to come out in recent history.

I think he's bordering on LaBron pre-draft hype. In terms of athletic potential and marketing potential. I can see the marketing guru's now, playing on his last name "Bush" like they've played on the whole "King James" thing.

Whether he's all that or not, no one will wait and see. They'll just give him a truck load of money and let the chips fall where they may. Back up the U-Haul boys, here comes Reggie Bush!!

They'll have a contract in place when they draft him. The first pick in the draft is allowed to negotiate before the draft. They won't draft him if it is clear they are far apart.

40 is an excessive figure. The highest average this season was only 24 carries/game. He will get more touches, but the length of the season will probably take more of a toll. However, if he goes to Houston, he probably won't have to worry about staying healthy for the playoffs...

Re: Reggie Bush's Contract

Rookie contracts have gotten WAY out of control. I heard Howie Long say something interesting on the fox pregame show probably a couple months ago. He says rookies should get a flat pay coming into the NFL with incentive escalators. If, after their rookie season, the player is a starter, he can renegotiate his contract. Or something like that. Long said the idea would get alot of support from the player's union because it would put more money in the pool for veterans.

I'm sure people will take issue with some of my classifications, but I think "successful" has a broad definition.

Yeah, I have to disagree with a few of those. Herschel Walker had a pretty good career, so he shouldn't be labeled a "bust". Bo Jackson was one of the best backs in the league before a freak injury finished his career. If you're basing it on the length of his career, then I can see your argument, but if Ricky Williams and Vinny Testaverde are considered "good" then Jackson certainly should be.

I know he's not on the list, but Gayle Sayers only played a little over 5 yrs w/Bears before his career ended and yet is in HOF.

Re: Reggie Bush's Contract

What every happened to the running back I think played for either Miami or FL State who got their knee blown out in a bowl game. I forgott his name but I do remember that he got drafted later and I think he was the Heis.winner that year. This was about 2 or 3 years ago.
