You act as if I go to a game and don't cheer my team on. I saw guys with 'skins Jerseys at the Pittsburgh game just sitting there. I was standing and yelling. I took a lot of shit from the fans around me (Pittsburgh ones of course) but you know what, they also gave me a lot of credit. We talked a lot.
While fanaticism does imply irrational behavior, including standing up and screaming your lungs out (can you imagine the stares you'd get for acting that way in the grocery store?), I think that the word more strongly connotates irrational belief. So, while cheering is good, I think it is arguable that true fanatics do indeed demonstrate a degree of unrelenting optimism. Realism and fanaticism just don't seem to fit well together. When we talk about fanatics, we are implying that, to some extent, reality has been left behind. Otherwise, we'd use a different word. A supporter may cheer at games, but a fanatic, in the true sense of the word, BELIEVES unrelentingly, and often does so irrationaly.

Yup, you can't have FAN without fanticism.

Re: Zone blocking

It went from Zone blocking to Daseal saying to himself "it's me against the world" ala Tupac.

I think people demonized him more than we demonized Coles...

And it seemed so innocent at the start.

In fairness though, If we start demonizing Coles again, Daseal is just going to come to his defense, and the cycle begins anew.........So we're really just skipping the ripping the Coles portion when you think about it.

Re: Zone blocking

Hey, I never intended to demonize anyone! I just wanted to point out that implying unrelentingly optimism from fanaticism isn't nearly as unreasonable as his sig line would have you believe.

Don't worry Phin........we're just messing around. I'm with you..........and Daseal has to have some pretty think skin by now.

By the way, I love the fan/fanaticism discussion. Very good point of view.

Re: Zone blocking

The cycle begins anew when people spout random comments. I'll say it's a select few and I won't mention names but it's not you or Phinehas. In fact, I wouldn't say it's ANY of the prolific posters.

Re: Zone blocking

I think it was Daseal or Gmanc and I had a conversation about prolific posters one time and even though some might not have as many posts, it seems they are on their way and always have something thoughtful to say. If not thoughtful, VERY entertaining!

Maaaaaaaaaaaybe..? And just the people who seem like kids getting home from middle school. Like I said, I won't name any names and those people are few and far between, but it seems like they incite a lot of problems.
