OMG. I think Larry Micheals explains it pretty good.

A fan asked if the wording in the "Hail to the Redskins" song is "Fight for all DC", "Fight for old DC", or "Fight for ole DC."

I thought Larry said it originally was "Fight for old Dixie" but was changed to "Fight for ole DC." The fan said he would prefer "Fight for all DC."

Personally I thought it always was "Fight for ole DC." This is how I sing the song. In any nutshell it's pretty bad we are so bored we are left talking about one word in a fight song. lol. When I first heard the question I thought who the "F" cares. But for whatever reason it keep rearing it's ugly head.

So apparently I've been singing it wrong, but "ole" and "old" basically are the same thing. It's just one is more of a southern word.

didnt know it use to be old dixie. i always thought the old was odd but figured it was a term of endearment back in the day like "old dixie" but didint realize it used to be old dixie. wtf does DC have to do with dixie and teh south anyways?

They haven't really changed it. I got that from a minature sound bite on a sports broadcast referencing "all" the DC sports franchises to date. It was being discussed because none of our pro-teams have done very well lately save for the Caps.

Funny you mention that, just the other night I was thinking about how long the Redskins represented the entire south. You had to go south-west to find the next nearest team before the Cowboys were added in 1960.

I think most can admit that Maryland, Washington D.C and parts of Northern Virginia aren't like they were during those times, but they still are southern no matter how you want to look at it.

I live in Richmond and I can tell you with the utmost certainty that Maryland, D.C., and Northern Virginia are NOT southern at all. Once you get north of Richmond its gone. Even Fredericksburg is iffy.

I've been to very many places in MD and VA that are still very southern acting. Most have become more northernized or whatever you want to call it, but a lot of parts of Loudoun and parts of MD towards PA are still very southern.

I don't think you could really find anywhere in D.C like that, but I could be wrong. I agree though that most parts are no longer act southern at all though.

However, doesn't defeat the fact they are southern states.

werd.. some of the surrounding areas like warrenton are.. but you can find the same type of areas in PA and OH too
