Fight for all D.C?
Last week I heard a fan on Redskins Nation mention he thought the song was fight for all D.C. Today another writer wrote in saying the same thing.
Are these new Redskins fans or what? I don't understand how people can get that confused. |
Re: Fight for all D.C?
fight for all what DC?
grandma taught me the song at 2 or 3 |
Re: Fight for all D.C?
The original wording was supposed to be Fight for old Dixie but fortunately it was changed.
|
Re: Fight for all D.C?
Old DC has been supplanted with "all", considering the likes of Wall, Strasburg, Ovechkin, McNabb, Williams and anyone else we can think of that creates a positive spin on the area. Don't forget Shanahan & Allen.

That is the original wording. The song underwent a bunch of changes at one point. |

what? they changed it to "all"? thats freakin stupid. i dont understand how changing it to all creates positive spin. who changed it? i didnt go to a game last year but did they have all instead of old when they show the words when people are signing it? didnt know it use to be old dixie. i always thought the old was odd but figured it was a term of endearment back in the day like "old dixie" but didint realize it used to be old dixie. wtf does DC have to do with dixie and teh south anyways? |

Back when the song was first written, the Redskins represented the entire south. There was no Carolina Panthers, no Atlanta Falcons, no Tennessee Titans, no Miami Dolphins, no Jacksonville Jaguars, no Tampa Bay Buccanneers |
Re: Fight for all D.C?
The original song was created in the 38 or in that zone if I remember correctly. So back then it would have been old dixie, of course everything now is politically correct so the words were changed up.
I think most can admit that Maryland, Washington D.C and parts of Northern Virginia aren't like they were during those times, but they still are southern no matter how you want to look at it. |

that makes sense. i was having trouble understanding or believing that when this song was written the DC metro area held themselves out to be representatives of old dixie. this thread has been quite the history lesson for me, which is great during these months. so was it ever "old dixie"l, or was that the original idea that got changed to DC before the song was introduced? |
Re: Fight for all D.C?
What? I still sing "old D.C."
Bah humbug. Blah. I still call our basketball team the Bullets too. |
