Re: Bench Rogers
Rogers stays in. In my opinion, he's arguably our best corner right now. Please don't tell me this shit about Shawn Springs, he's been getting toasted too.
I think our biggest loss in the secondary this year was letting Dwayne Walker go...and bringing in Jerry Gray. I don't think we have any ints as a secondary this year. Sean Taylor had like 4 interceptions a year ago. Rogers giving those cushions is more a function of what he's being told to do, and not reflective of his skills. |

Re: Bench Rogers
If you watch closely, Springs is giving a big cushion also, but not as big as Rogers. Rogers really looks afraid of being beat deep. What really got to me was that the Eagles were playing tight on 3rd down and never got beat because of it... at least not more than we did by giving the "free first down " cushions we were giving.

Re: Bench Rogers
I wasn't saying Jerry Gray was calling the defense. I was commenting on the technique Rogers was using which I thought was taught by Gray. Maybe I'm wrong.

Re: Bench Rogers
The scheme has him playing off the WR, it's not his choice.

Re: Bench Rogers
Exactly. Technique wise, it seems like Carlos has taken a step backwards. At least last year he was in position numerous times to make the interception.

Re: Bench Rogers
think we'll see an INT from our defense the rest of the season?

Re: Bench Rogers
I'm confused. If blitzing is our "thing", I thought having corners play up would allow for that to happen. Are they being told to play off because they can't cover man to man? Help me out on this one(seriously).

Re: Bench Rogers
In case you've missed this year we've had serious problems giving up big plays, therefore GW has been playing alot more zone and playing his corners soft. You can still blitz and play your corners off the ball, one has nothing to do with the other.

Re: Bench Rogers
you can blame Rogers, I think he plays way too far off the receiver. If they are playing a safety over top, which the did quite a bit today, I dont understand why he isn't jamming the damn receiver at the line. it makes absolutely no f'n sense. I can count 4 or 5 times he gave up 3rd downs and the one 4th down because all McNabb had to do was stand up, fire to the receiver and complete a pass for 7 yards. he sucks.

Re: Bench Rogers
I do agree that the coaches have some responsability on telling him to move toward the line of scrimmage, namely Jerry Gray, but if he can't see that as a player he's the biggest idiot on the field. How many times do you have to get beat on the same play, time and time again, game after game before you realize that teams know you are playing so far off all the have to do is throw a quick pass or slant. he has to know that. I played DB in school and even I realized if I was getting beat on quick slants or outs that I needed to get closer to the line.

Re: Bench Rogers
I would like to see our corners be more physical at the line of scrimage, but I wish the the coaching staff would not have let Antonio Pierce, Walt Harris and Ryan Clark leave by FA. That is when this defense started going south, I would have rather see them pay those player more money than to give it to Archuletta, Rhumph etc.
I think Williams gave too much credit to his system and not enough credit to the talent he had on the team at that time |
