Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
Is the team seriously considering this or are you just throwing stuff out there?

I'd take Manning/Cousins

Cousins will be a career back up....but I'd take him over Grossbeck.

How would you feel about Weeden and Dennis Dixon....would be an example of just throwing it out there

First things first: I'm not put off by Weeden's age at all. For me Weeden and Foles are similar prospects in that they are separated from the top tier QBs in this class because of ther comparative lack of athleticism and playmaking. I think Weeden's velocity is really underrated, to my eye Weeden provides the same plus level of arm talent. (And it was on display at the combine where Weeden looked like he had the bigger arm then Foles) From the games I've watched Weeden seems like the more polished QB. Weeden is a more efficient passer even though to my eye plays with a more aggressive style (maybe its scheme or mentality?) Foles seems to throw more 'gimme' passes where Weeden seems to attack more. Finally Weeden to my eye has much cleaner footwork then Foles. Weeden reminds me of a less athletic Andy Dalton but with better arm talent. |

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
From what we all know as of right now, Manning does appear to be plan B if the Rams to do accept what we are offering for the #2 pick, so Manning is definately in the picture with said rookie to be named at the draft.

although id still take weeden and dixon over beck and grossman. i'd be extremely excited about manning/cousins. however, i'd also be extremely excited about trading a buttload of picks for griffin (i've actually warmed up to the guy. i started out dead-opposed to griffin b/c i thought he was not worth trading up for. im still not overly impressed with highlight reels ive seen as the competition isnt all that great but ive listened to a few interviews with him and am sold. he seems to have all the intangibles you could ever want in a qb. hes got the confidence of grossman and its actually backed up by this little thing called talent. in the end, i think id prefer going manning/cousins, saving our draft picks, and signing wayne/garcon and saturday to give the offense the smoothest possible transition. cousins is nowhere near ready to start, but has tons of potential and the intangibles you want. he'd need a few years behind manning.

If Manning got hurt then Cousins would be our starter? Are we trying to relive the 2011 Colts?

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
QBs are such a mystery. Even finding a guy who can stick around and be a career back-up seems ridiculously hard to do. See below for the last 12 years. Drafting high does seem to improve the odds, but there are also a lot of gems laken later (Brees, Rodgers, Brady of course, maybe Dalton). Shanny gets grief for whiffing the last couple of years, but whiffing is more common that hitting.
2011 - Newton, Locker, Gabbert, Ponder, Dalton 2010 - Bradford, Tebow, Clausen, McCoy 2009 - Stafford, Sanchez, Freeman, Pat White 2008 - Ryan, Flacco, Brohm, Henne (Matt Flynn taken in the 7th) 2007 - Russell, Quinn, Kolb, BECK, (terrible year for QBs) 2006 - Young, Leinert, Cutler, Clemens, T. Jackson 2005 - Alex Smith, Rodgers, Campbell, Frye (Orton taken in the 4th, Cassell and Fitzpatrick in the 7th) 2004 - Eli, Rivers, Big Ben, Losman, Schaub (great year for QBs. Where were we?!?!) 2003 - Palmer, Leftwich, Boller, RGIII the first 2002 - Carr, Ramsey, Harrington, McCown, Gerrard 2001 - Vick, Brees, Q. Carter 2000 - The Brady 6, Tom Brady

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
Cousins in particular or any later round developmental QB?
Manning + a 1st round OT + a later round QB (4th round or down) is awesome. I would much prefer Russell Wilson but as long as its Manning + OT I would be okay with any developmental QB. |

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
If I had to bet here's how I'd see the QB frenzy shape out:
MIAMI- Matt Flynn Cleveland-RG3 (Those 2 first this year would do it for me if I'm STL) Washington- Manning/Hoyer or Rookie Seattle- Ryan Tannehill INDY- Of course Luck NYJ- Sanchez only because they have no other choice KC- Orton MIN-Ponder/Jason Campbell
