Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
I'm just amazed how people are reacting to a kid showing up and doing one interview and running a 40. To me his interview was no better or worse then the rest other then the over confident RB, but he's another story. Yes his 40 time was a bit shocking to be but that's straight on speed. If this were the Olympics yes I'd be all over taking him but it's not. To be honest the 40 time means diddly other then if given a straight open field he will out run almost everyone, but that's rare considering the 11 other players on the other side of the ball.
None of what he's done at the Combine shows if he can read defenses, none of it showed how good or bad he can throw, none of it showed his footwork, none of it showed if he can back peddle set and deliver the ball. All it showed is he can answer a few questions which I think half of us could do and it showed he's an awesome track star. If he fell to us at #6 I'd take him but he won't, and the price rumored is way too high for me. Hell save the picks, trade back, and pick up two Rookies if you'd like and let them battle in camp. We'd still be able to pick up more weapons from the draft. Given all our holes everyone is talking about and how the team is "no where near competing for a play off spot" one would think others here would not want to give up all those potential picks that would probably be starting like pretty much everyone of last years had started at one point or another. One year of hardly any FA movement and one solid draft seems and doing the opposite of what this team has done in years past and it's like everyone has gotten DT's from it and are screaming for a fix at any cost. Plus we all can speculate but we really don't know what Flynn will want, he might decide to sign a decent contract with the Packers in order to stay with them because they offer the best chance of getting a second ring atleast for now. That would screw all this up. Manning might decide he will not want to hurt the Colts fans feelings and lose his legacy by playing elsewhere and that would put a monkey wrench in everything also. Cause the rest of the QBs out there don't scream play offs, more like backup other then possibly Hoyer and he is a back up. |

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
There is game tape that tells you RGIII is a legitimate QB and not simply a track star. Why do people keep discounting what he did at Baylor last year like anyone could have done the same? And just a heads up but it wasn't one interview. He had multiple interviews (ie the NFL Network) and the general consensus is that he handled the questions better than the rest of the QB group. This includes actual football talk and not just "how would you describe yourself" questions.

Also keep in mind that a lot of teams that have been suspected to be involved in a trade up are meeting face to face for the first time in a while. Either way this is not happening overnight. He's been projected to go #2 since maybe as far back as the start of the playoffs. It's not like he was suppose to be a late 1st early 2nd round pick and now teams are suddenly rushing to see how much the Rams want for the second pick.

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
Also what constitutes a "Franchise" QB? I'm almost positive everyone here has a different idea of what one is. I hesitate to call anyone a franchise QB until they have been here longer then a couple of years, and they have to have pretty decent success. RGIII has neither of these as of yet and for me it's hard to call him anything other then a really good luxury draft pick which will cost the team several valuable draft picks that could be starters also. In yrs past when Cerrato would draft 7 people and only keep 2 or 3 I'd agree with you all but this coaching staff showed they can scout valuable starting talent and able to keep all.

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)
I agree with SB on the point of taking RGIII if he's there at 6 (I also agree he wont be there); however there is no way I'd trade away a bunch of pick for him. This team has waaaay too many holes to be giving away draft picks.

gotta say, this ranks up there in the "I refuse to see it, because I don't want it" quotient. Does a combine interview alone make a franchise qb? no, but this kid has done dozens of interviews, has his degree, and clearly has a good head on his shoulders. ***edit*** I don't know for sure how many interviews, but I know he has done several with Sirius, and NFL Network. Yes sure all of these are fluff but listen to Carlos Rodgers do an interview, and listen to RGIII, and you most certainly come away with two distinctly different impressions. **** Does the fastest qb 40 since Michael Vick mean he will elude NFL pass rushers? no, but college film would seem to imply he might, and if he does get out in the open, the game break speed might come in handy. I think the DT's come from having qb controversy every year since 91, and never just "having that guy". With nearly 600 free agents, alot of our holes will get touched on that way. If there was ever a year to give up several picks in order to get a franchise qb, this just might be the one. We have the cap room to get solid, maybe ever star, players at a few positions, there will be several to choose from, and we have a lot more young depth than we have had in years. Now, we don't know what the price will be for RGIII, and if it's possible that it might be too high. 3 1st rounders is what I consider too high. The browns certainly could bid up to that if they want to, since they have 2 this year and one next ) Last edited by CRedskinsRule; 02-27-2012 at 08:04 AM. |

That said, if the Shanny's are in love with him and think he's the chosen one, then this year's second and third and next year's first isn't a terrible price to pay ONLY because we can get the same caliber players in free agency. If we weren't in such a solid position with free agency, it would be a much tougher pill to swallow.

I still believe it will break down this way....
Colts ....Luck #2 Browns....RGIII Peyton Manning to the Cardinals or Jets.
