Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)

I haven't posted much recently but Id by lying if I said I haven't hit refresh on a 'QB Rumors' thread 5000 times... Id prefer a thread that didn't start with rumor...

With all the talk and hype about RG3 today I actually find myself leaning more towards Manning. I didn't want Mannig before but he seems like he'll be 100% this year. Yes he can't be our QB for 10 years, but if you look at if for 3 years think about how much better we would be. For the time being we would have a QB. Then we would also have at least 3 first round picks, and a 2nd and 3rd (average trade value I've seen for moving up for RG3)

Id LOVE to have RGIII. But RG3 over Manning and possibly 5 other starters...it just seems like too much to move up a few spots...

Yep. Manning for me. I just don't know if this is the guy. I like the kid, good college skills, but to be honest this whole deal is a big gamble and if it fails we are left with out some ammo for talent.

I would prefer to keep our picks and gamble cash on Manning then gamble 2 years of high draft picks.

I would still almost consider trading Rak and drafting a better fit for an OLB in our 3-4 with that pick, despite not moving up to draft RGIII.

Don't get me wrong, even if we get Manning, if RG3 falls for some reason I'm happy to take him. Or at that point id even be happy getting a ransom from another team looking to move up. Everyone says it won't happen but you never know with the draft.

Completely agree.

I suppose Dirt, I just don't think we can say he is a sure fire success. I am not at that point. I watched some of his games. He has skill for sure, but will it all translate. Will he get blasted at some point and be done for a few games? Who knows maybe I am wrong.

I understand people saying RGIII is a gamble but I think that gamble is only really medical as his playing style is risky. In terms of potential impact he's about as safe as you can get at the QB position.

As I've pointed out before Michael Vick sucked as a QB in Atlanta. Could barely complete over 55% of his passes if that, never threw for over 3,000 yards, didn't study the playbook, etc. And yet the Falcons won games and were almost unstoppable on the ground. And all this with a guy that was basically running around with his head cut off.

Now throw in a 140 IQ, great work ethic, 65%+ accuracy, with Vick's arm and speed in an offense that puts him on the move and reassess the risk.

I admit there is a risk that he might have problem transitioning from a spread style offense to a pro style making traditional reads but even if he fails in that area as bad as Vick did we'll still win games. Downside is we won't win the Super Bowl but almost anything is better then these post 1991 years.

Bottom line, truly athleticly-gifted QB's will always find success in this league. How much success will be determined by how they develop as passers but ironically the floor is higher then that of any traditional pocket passer.
