I liked the direction the team was going with youth. I still think if we want rg3 it will be cheaper to wait to draft day to make the trade up

You wait and someone else has the chance to lock in a deal before the draft.

I think a deal gets done before the draft.

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)

In this situation where the value of the pick is based on one player and position the Rams will lose value waiting until draft day. Teams will make QB decisions in free agency that take them out of the bidding. If only 1 team is left without a QB then the Rams lose thier leverage. I think a deal will be announced when Free agency begins.

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)

The price tag reported by Eskin doesn't seem super exorbitant to me and I doubt we're talking about both the second and third round picks anyway: we're probably talking about either or.

Your draft is toast the second you do it though. The biggest problem with that trade isn't the price tag, it's the expectations that Griffin would be saddled with. It seems to ensure that the Redskins will be not very good for at least one more year (and who knows anything after that). Wheras going the "safer" route with Weeden doesn't really determine the quality of the rest of your draft.

Which is exactly the reason it's nonsensical for the Redskins to get involved now, unless they ultimately want Luck and need the second pick before those talks can even begin.

Definitely makes alot of sense to get it done early. Doesn't mean it will.

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)

The other thing a potential trade from 6 to 2 would represent is that the Redskins think Ryan Tannehill isn't an NFL quarterback.

So like the Eli Manning trade, if the Redskins get RG3 and become relevant again and he's everything you ask for, but Tannehill also goes on to become a top 10 QB in the NFL, then that's effectively losing the trade. Because even offering that much for RG3 isn't just an evaluation on Griffin, but Tannehill as well.

Makes sense IMO for the SKINS to make an offer now, the closer we get to FA & the draft it enables us to take picks back. Offer the world now knowing they won't do it, then as teams sign FA QB's the demand for the #2 pick goes down you HOPE.

Unless the guy they really want is RG3 then it makes perfect sense. If they wait the Rams will just sell the pick to the other highest bidder.

The Rams are not dumb and will wait and see how many picks they can get, they aren't in a rush.

The Rams don't have another (serious) bidder. It's the Redskins vs. time.

I think the Seahawks could get involved late, but the market price of the no. 2 pick will be fairly well known if they do.

Ultimately, the Rams need the Redskins to be involved because they don't have any other serious offers right now that would allow them to stay in the top 8 and pick an elite talent in this draft. It makes total sense for the Rams to move the pick to Redskins now because the bidding war in the future is so dependent on the Redskins or Browns to be involved and right now the Browns are lukewarm.

Okay so you have it all figured out that the Redskins are the only serious bidder right now. Good to know...I guess there's nothing else to say.

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)

If Tripp is right that the Rams have no other serious bidder than the Skins, then the price either now or later should be comparatively cheap. And if RGIII is our guy and we can trade up for cheap, that should be a slam dunk for us.

If Tripp is wrong and there are other bidders, we still need to go get RGIII if he is our guy.

If Tannehill is our guy then we should take him at 6.

I have no problem with any of these plans. In the end the Shanny's, not me, have to be comfortable with their choice.

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)

Can't shake the feeling that it is still way too early to be determining trade price/value. Free agency changes everything. If the Browns sign Flynn, Dolphins get Manning and Seahawks sign a Campbell or Orton then the compeitive price drops to a 1st and 4th plus next year's #1, same as for Manning. Eskin is pretty well dialed into the Eagles but he's far from a Redskins insider so I wouldn't give a whole lot of stock into his price.

I think Shanahan/Allen are smart enough to know that they have to do something to bring a dynamic playmaker to DC for a multitude of reasons. That being the case, they also know that they can't trade an entire draft for him. They will do the right thing regarding RGIII. This isn't the old Snyderatto Redskins who would have given up three first round picks plus Orakpo and Helu. Patience, as hard as it is, is our best asset.
