Re: I See QB Rumors (2012 QB Thread: The Sixth Sense)

What I want to know is, would Manning have the same freedom he did in Indy, if he comes here? Shanahan, from what I remember didn't give McNabb the freedom to change plays much if at all (can't remember).

I'm all for Manning assuming he's 100% or close to it because a 50% Manning is better than a 100% Grossman. Just don't want to see the guy get paralyzed on the field.

In addition to that, PM has health issues. I agree w/Theisman on this one, I actually think signing Peyton is a pretty big risk for Shanny even if he's declared fully healthy. If he could draft his future qb in 1st or 2nd & sign Petyon it would give him something to fall back on. I hope Smoot's info proves true & we are not interested.
It's old info I had, or maybe better said wrong info. Yeah, I can admit it. I didn't think it was genuine but now that I know more information, and know who the catalyst is behind it, I can comfortably say that this isn't just a smokescreen. The interest is sincere and the feeling is mutual. I had heard that Mike Shanahan was against it, but that was (it turns out) highly exaggerated.

Will he sign here? I don't know. I still think the Jets are a very strong possibility...and Mark Sanchez to the Redskins!

But seriously, I don't know if we'll sign Manning but I've accepted that it's very possible. Actually, I love the idea of a healthy Manning. So long as we add one or two young QBs. That was always my problem with the McNabb move.

Plus all it would take is money to get Manning, no picks.
I agree, there's no comparision between PM and DM. It seems to me that signing PM is pretty much risk free. Like Matty says, it's only a matter of $ and how the contract is structured. The cherry on top is that no picks need to be given away.

Guys, this situation is different because from the "rumors" we're hearing, it's not just going to be Peyton Manning or bust. The Redskins are going to pick up a developmental guy who will hopefully be ready to take over once Manning is done. Let's say best case scenario (yes I know "Realistic" Redskins fans don't like to think in best case scenario) is that Manning can last another 4 years. That's 4 years that a guy like Tannehill/Foles/Cousins can learn the entire process and be ready to play. Even if it's just a couple of seasons, a guy like Ryan Tannehill could probably be ready to come in and lead this team.

Yes, I understand the McNabb comparison. The truth is, McNabb under performed and the rest of the team (especially defense) was going through a major transition, so it wasn't a good situation all around. However, this time, the defense is more solid, the offensive line has improved (even though there is still a lot of room for improvement) and there is a lot of youth at wide receiver and running back to help Manning out. This is a much different situation than it is with McNabb. I will also say if the Shanahans can't be successful with Manning, yes, they should be fired. Yes, I know it's a gamble, but the Redskins have to have a proven leader. And I've said it before, a 70% Peyton Manning is better than most 100% NFL starting quarterbacks.

I really don't think MS is that dumb to handcuff a guy like Manning.

Re: I See QB Rumors (2012 QB Thread: The Sixth Sense)

I think most of us believe that the skins will still add a rookie or 2 if they sign Manning but the real issue is how high a priority it will be. Will they still pursue high level prospect like RG3 or Tannehill as the future QB in waiting or will they throw a late round QB dart at the wall just to give the illusion that they are still thinking long term? Oh well...I need to see how the whole QB depth chart shapes up before I will be happy with this Manning signing that we appear headed towards...

Agreed, but unfortunately I wouldn't put it past him either.

Good news for Smoot. Looks like some chatter this morning from the few ES insiders are saying the Skins possibly looking into bringing Chase Daniel in for a backup role. Talk about going full circle.

edit: DAMN YOU SPELLING NAZI!!

I don't even care about Chase Daniels. Chase Daniel on the other hand...

Yeah one of my buddies told me about that rumor. Not sure if he saw it on ES. No idea where that's coming from. If it's due diligence or what. I know the Saints really like Sean Canfield but I don't think they'd let CD go easily.

But man, Manning, Chase and Ryan Tannehill! Sweeeet. Doubt it would happen though.

I think they mentioned he is one of many options they are exploring so it fits your suggestion of doing their due diligence. Just thought that would put a smile on your face. Now, if they could get Peyton, Chase and Matt Moore in here, I think your head would explode.

Good point, although I think they could consider trading down from the #6 spot and get more picks, allowing them to sign someone either later in the first or early in the second round.

I don't think Mike's intelligence is at issue either, in fact my bet is he's highly intelligent. It's the pride/ego thing holding him and his team(s) back IMO.

...hopefully the last two seasons humbled him a bit and IF Manning becomes a Skin we'll see Manning's offense, not Kyle's.

Neither was Peyton Manning in his first two seasons.

That would be something if the Redskins were able to secure both Peyton Manning and RGIII, but I think it's a one or the other type of deal. Really, what probably separates Luck and Griffin from the rest of the pack is that both appear to be starters from day one, while the others could be top notch quarterbacks after a couple of years of development. Which is why it makes most sense if we go the Manning route to pick up one of the other guys (Tannehill, Foles, Cousins, Moore.)
