Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins at Cowboys)
This just in:
Last night Tony Romo helped an old lady across the street, rescued a kitten from a tree, saved a family of 4 from a burning building, cured cancer, erased the national deficit, and discovered the formula for cold fusion. Somewhere in between, he managed to squeeze in a football game. He is taking Tuesday off because his cape is at the cleaners. |

When was the last time Dallas was held without a TD? They broke Romo's 20-game streak of consecutive games with a TD pass. But man, ONE busted coverage on 3rd and 21 when the defense did everything they possibly could to keep us in the game while the offense took half the night off and Jim Haslett is the antichrist. Sports fans just cannot do without a villain -- even when he's on the team they root for. Crazy. |

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins at Cowboys)
I didn't like the 3rd & 21 call, just seems too risky & I definitely don't think Hall should be out there 1 on 1 w/no safety help. Have to wonder if Haslett was thinking it might be 4 down territory if they could gain much of it back on that 3rd down?
That said, the D played a really good game, but why did Romo take no hits in the 1st half but they had a lot less yardage? I wonder if the blitzes backfired on more than just that one big play. I'd have to watch most of it again. |

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins at Cowboys)
I actually thought Haslett called a good defensive game. That third and 21 was a bad call by him thought only because they were able to adjust to it after seeing it the previous 2 plays/looks. It was Haslett's gamble in addition to Hall's gamble with looking for the pick that made that play work against the redskins. It's not about playing less aggressive-- they just need to know when to take less risks and be less predictable about it.

.. and if Hall played overtop of Bryant that play (and then play closer to him near the 1st down marker) -- Romo doesn't throw it, or throws it and Hall stops him before getting the first down.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins at Cowboys)
My smackdown goes to Rex Grossmans speed and girly hands.
Good God I'd rather have Trent Williams w/ the ball scrambling out to the left then Grossman. Grossman even was looking behind him and still couldnt stop from fumbling. He is so damn slow. If he gets touched he fumbles. Grossman is who he is. If he starts all 16 games he is good for about 30 total turnovers counting Int's and fumbles. That being said he should still get the start vs. the Rams. Too early to pull him. |

I would bet my life if Grossman repeats that performance next week, we will see Beck come game 5.

Week 1 Romo played lights out for 3 quarters. Then threw an interception in the 4th and he was crucified. The following week, he fractures a rib and plays through it and wins the game and he went from zero to hero. In weeks 1 and 2, Grossman was good, very good. Everyone was singing his praises. He has one bad quarter (much like Romo did) and now Grossman is the one getting crucified. Hero to Zero. What happens in week 4 if Grossman goes 28-32 325 yds and 2 TD's and 0 INT? |

Romo is a poor mans Brett Favre and Grossman is a poor mans Tony Romo. We'll get there. Our Defense is good. They'll be unreal next year and the offense will be next year what the D is this year.
