Doesn't sound crazy at all, unless there were members of this forum who actually thought we were destined to go 16-0.

Big picture guys. In the big picture, we're 2-1, with 13 games left and a not-so-tough schedule. We're definitely not done yet.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins at Cowboys)

Monday Night Countdown - What a total disgrace, deserves it's own smackdown post. The show is 90 minutes. Here's the breakdown:

- Highlights and general football talk - 15 minutes

- Homo lovefest - 40 minutes. Did you guys know he was playing with bad ribs?? Oh wait let's hear more about his ribs, but this time let's do it via bus interview!

- Vick - 20 minutes - never have I seen such concern for a BRUISED NON-THROWING hand for christ sake. But in-studio analysis is not enough, now let's cut to the field and see what Dilfer and Young think about Vick's hand!

- Peyton's injury - 10 minutes - Really??????? Peyton's out 'til 2012 - WE GET IT!!

- Redskins 'analysis' - 5 minutes - I put analysis in quotes because this was really just a 5-minute Rex bashing session. They all went around the circle cursing him and laughing at him, calling him a prius... quality stuff guys.

One of the benefits of playing on MNF is that all the pre-game BS hype is about YOUR team. ESPN has the rest of the week to discuss these stupid stories ad nauseum. Can't I see some Skins stuff? Give me a Shanny interview or maybe a Kerrigan. I'd even take a Hall interview where he shoots his big mouth off. Give me something!!

ESPN should be ashamed, pure fckn garbage. Time to get you outta there Smoot. Time to launch SSPN.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins at Cowboys)

If the Redskins were more willing to offer their players up for interviews and features there would be more. Not going to divulge much more, but there was a story (a positive one) that got squashed by the team. Maybe some other time. But, and I've said this before, hate Jerry Jones all you want but as a media partner you won't find more cooperative owners than him or organizations than the Cowboys. Is it self-serving for them? Sure, but they know what they're doing

And maybe you missed where Young praised Rex

And on a national scale Vick, Peyton, and even Romo are much bigger deals.

The reality is that more people tune into their local regional sports network or even radio for pregame. You may be more likely to watch ESPN's pregame show the night the Redskins are playing than on other nights but it's a national show meant for a broad audience. I've said it before myself, if I want Redskins news I'm not going to ESPN as my primary source. There are better local options.

I like the optimism but don't we say that every year and lose. Seems like we play them every year.

Ya I saw it... then they immediately cut back to one of the guys saying "I'm still trying to process the Rex is a top-10 QB comment". They can't even give 2 seconds for the nice comment to sink in.

I understand everything you're saying, but I think it's wrong. It's insulting to turn on MNC when the Skins are playing, and have to see the whole 90 minutes devoted to our rivals. Romo's one thing but to spend so much time on Vick... it's a slap in the face. Guess we've kind of earned that treatment though.

I still say it's time for SSPN.

I'd tell you to tune into CSN's pregame show, but you're in Canada, so idk what to tell you. But SS is right, unfortunately MNC is a national broadcast, so expect it to cover more nationally prominent items. I watched CSN's pregame yesterday and even though it was pretty boring and mundane it was at least all about the Redskins, which I enjoyed.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins at Cowboys)

I get that the Skins are a "closed media" team and would agree that it is to their detriment.

I get that Romo is a very good QB.

But dear God - the swooning over Romo last night and in the media is just disgusting. I swear it's like he is the second coming. He has won ONE playoff game! ONE! He has choked in the same number and his team has never made past the first round of the play-offs. Can we wait to annoint him until AFTER he has won something significant.

Listening to Jaws and the rest swoon over him last night was sickening. I swear they all had to change their shorts mid-telecast.

ESPN has never been big on the Redskins but then again we haven't been good in 100 years

You didn't get the memo? He is the second coming. First quarterback ever to play with a broken rib. Didn't you see the pain on his face? That's the kind of pain no other quarterback in the history of the game has ever had to deal with. Didn't you see the way he led his team down the field repeatedly and failed to get into the end zone? No other qb can do that the way he did. What a warrior. Oh my gosh. Did you see the way he told the other 10 offensive players to hop on his back so he could piggyback them down to the end zone? Boy you missed out.

As much as I hated all the gayness over Romo, he was out there with a broken rib getting the crap knocked out of him. He didn't even practice all week. My hat is off to him. He's one tough SOB.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins at Cowboys)

The praise of Romo may be a bit much at times (though conveniently people dismiss when he's criticized), but in the wake of receivers who didn't know their routes and a center who couldn't snap coupled with his injuries he was pretty solid yesterday.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins at Cowboys)

I actually don't envy the Dallas media limelight. It turns the team into a bunch of divas and look how they respond? They played terribly, made gag-reel worthy mistakes all night long and the media covered for them.

Anyone think that actually does any service to the team or the players? Romo will come away from this game feeling like he did a good job instead of being disgusted.

I prefer the Gilbert Arenas school of motivational psychology, personally. (Though not the Arenas school of PR): "They all hate you, they all want to see you fail. F' em. Stick it in their faces. "

On the PR side I'm all Art Monk:

"Do your work, pound the other guys, and when the fickle media wants to do an interview and hear you talk about how awesome you are, you say "just doing our jobs, nothing more."

And what a class act! Even though the rookies made tons of mistakes, he refused to sell them out on national tv, instead waiting til the sidelines or the huddle to state his case. He even took some of the miscommunication blame on himself, he is the QB after all. What a crock...

Ok sorry for the ranting but I think I've finally vomitted all the Romo gayness out of my system. :vomit: Ready to move on.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins at Cowboys)

He did a great job - Undoubtedly - and deserved praise for his toughness. The praise, though, was over the top before and after. I hope the announcers go back and listen to themselves. Praise is one thing, gushing man-love is another.

As for the criticism, when it occurs, is generally fair and deserved. At the same time, I have yet to see anyone castigate him on a regular basis or fail to quickly forget his faults after he has a good game. Everyone has forgotten about his week one choke in light of his epic brilliance. None of this - "He's tough and played a great game but he's done that before - he has to show he can do it all year long"

Again, he played a helluva game. However, IMHO, he needs to do a lot more to justify the demi-god status he is being accorded.

Sorry, even considering the adversity he played under, to me the announcing last night was just wayyyyy over the top.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins at Cowboys)

D.Hall - already cursed him in the other thread so won't rehash. In summary he's a #2 CB with a big mouth.

Brown - still trying to figure out what makes this guy so special and deserving of a new long-term contract...

Rex - was really hoping he'd use this game to silence the critics and make them eat their words. Instead he reconfirmed their views.

Rob Jackson - not sure why you're busy tackling the blocking FB while the RB is running for 50 yards behind you.

O playcalling - we had multiple drives in the 4th quarter where we could have sealed the game with a score but failed. Rex is partly to blame but the coaches gotta find a way to score on one of those drives.
