And more often than not, he contradicts himself when he tries to make a point- saying one thing and then the opposite in one breath. And when he is wrong, which is alot, he tries to backtrack and to try to distract by saying he meant something else. |

I listen to him because I think he has the best interviews of anyone on the ESPN line up. And if we are talking best NFL guys on ESPN how are we not talking about Mark schlereth? He gives plenty of good insight, relevant stories from his playing days and seems like a good dude. |

However, if as a radio host he decides to do a segment on the "worst teams in the NFL for the upcoming year", he almost has to identify THE one that he thinks will be THE worst. So, by definition, he will have to single out one team for that label. Now I happen to think that the Bengals are going to be that team in 2011, but that does not make me someone who hates Cincinnati or Mike Brown or Marvin Lewis or fill in the blank here. The fact that he thinks the Skins will be the worst team in the league does not mean that he hates Washington, Danny Boy, Mike Shanahan or the US Congress. Oh wait, he might hate the Congress and that would not be so far off base...

He wasn't directly answering anyone's question or doing a planned "segment" of the radio program, and he wasn't just volunteeringly expressing his opinion. He was trying to make a bold point, probably because he received some trusted, respected nfl insider or analyst's information about the redskins. And he wanted to make himself look supersmart later, by saying it way before anyone else. But the problem is -- that it doesn't look like the redskins will be close to being the worst team in the nfl. But trust me, later he'll say something like "folks, what I meant was the redskins situation and the way they were being run put them in the category of being the worst team in the nfl... are you kidding me, I wouldn't actually mean that... I'm no nostra-damn-us". He contradicts himself and backtracks all the time. That's why you can't put stock in what he says, but the problem is-- he is very convincing in how and what he says. I don't trust him to buy anything from him, but if I had some swampland to sell - he'd be the guy to sell it for me. |

It's not what I think, and clearly not what you think...but you're taking his opinion way too personally.

Even if I accept that an ESPN analyst's opinion has influence over a lot of people, I get off the train long before I think that such influence/perception has significant influence over "on-the-field-performance" on Sundays in the NFL. You say that I cannot deny that Grossman's comments had an affect (sic). Excuse me, but I am now going to deny that statement completely. Grossman's comments and the Redskins' performance on the field against the Steelers in a meaningless exhibition game had next to nothing to do with one another. That is my unalterable opinion; you are free to maintain yours. If your opinion is correct, then either QB for the Skins this year will be able to leverage all of the negativity that has been heaped on the team - - and on the QBs themselves - - to attain a record of at least 13-3. I, on the other hand, am not counting that as a realistic possibility. And if negtive media reports on a team are fodder for extremely positive motivation, then the Bengals ought to be 8 -5 favorites to win the Super Bowl in Feb 2010. Somehow, I think that is not a likely outcome to the season...

You act as if this team is made up of drones that are told how they should feel. These are prideful men that have worked hard to get to where they are. If you think some guy on the radio declaring that they're part of the worst team in the NFL (before any footballs even been played) is somehow gonna make them say "gosh I guess we do suck, might as well not even try" you're clearly not thinking straight. and btw what Grossman said can't even be compared to what a random guy on the radio says. Football players dont look to radio hosts for leadership they look at their teammates. |
