Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011

I agree we needed a youth spark at the skill positions. I also thought if we do sign a Free Agent quarterback lets get Drew Stanton from the lions, even though he was a third stringer originally he started a few games this year and was actually really good. He would add some competition to the position

I think we need a QB that can take preassure, that doesn't panic and who's able to carry the ball at least a couple of yards. Because Grossman wasn't that bad in the last three games of the season and he has a very good arm, but each and every time he hadn't a perfect protection (and let's face it it occured plenty of times) he seemed to be scared and threw the ball away more quickly than I've ever seen. I don't know if experience on the field can improve that.

Throwing the ball away isn't always a bad thing. I don't think he threw the ball away a lot in those games; in the Giants game his passes were batted back at him a lot which may kind cloud things a bit.

I also remember him on bootlegs and stuff like that at least trying to run and gain a couple yards.

But one of the problems with McNabb was that, instead of just throwing the ball away, he always tried to make the play. I think he took some sacks he did have to because instead of just chucking the ball out of bounds and living to play another down, he tried pulling the ball down and escaping, which got him sacked.

A lot.

I'd rather my quarterback throw the ball away on 2nd and 10 and end up in 3rd and 10 then have him try to make a play and end up 3rd and 20.

Definitely agree with you, but I had the feeling the commentators really had a lot of occasions to speak about the difference between intentional grounding and incomplete pass with Grossman...

A Possible Destination For Santana Moss

Free agent wide receiver Santana Moss has said that he wants to return to the Washington Redskins in 2011 and beyond. “My first choice is to stay in Washington,” Moss told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk in February. He has repeated that sentiment to others since then.

And there are many reasons to believe that the Redskins would like to retain Moss’ services. Although they drafted three wide receivers in April, rookie wideouts are slow to develop. If Moss departs, the Redskins leading returning receiver would be Anthony Armstrong, who has 871 career receiving yards.

But the Redskins knew that Moss would be a free agent when his contract voided in February and they did not make him an offer he couldn’t refuse prior to the lockout. This makes me wonder how competitive an offer the Redskins will make when the time comes.

It seems likely that Moss will have alternatives. On Rotoworld, Evan Silva predicts that Moss will end up with the Patriots. Another potential suitor is the Bears.

A segment on the Bears’ official website, senior writer Larry Mayer wrote the following in response to a question about Moss.

When you hear about receivers who are due to become free agents, his name is rarely among the first few mentioned. But he has been highly productive, averaging 81 receptions for 2,251 yards and three touchdowns the past three seasons for a Redskins team that has struggled at the quarterback position. Moss has said that he wants to re-sign with Washington, but I see no reason why the Bears wouldn’t at least consider taking a look at him unless they feel he’s too similar in size, stature and style to receivers such as Johnny Knox and Devin Hester who are already on their roster.

To be sure, this is speculation in response to a question on the writer’s part and he is not reporting that anyone in the Bears organization has expressed any interest in signing Moss.

The point here is that a lot of teams could use a good receiver like Moss. The return of Santana Moss is not entirely up to the Redskins. From what Moss says it appears that he will be willing to give the Redskins a hometown discount, perhaps a substantial one. But it appears that the Redskins are no longer going to engage in bidding wars, especially against themselves.

While I would say that right now the odds favor a Moss return, Redskins fans should be prepared to see him in a different uniform in 2011.

Let's say Reggie Bush wants out/gets out...

I think he'd be a good pickup. We need weapons period.
Spell em in.. let Beck dump it off.. he'd be a cool Skin.

Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011

How much of what Allen is saying here is real, or how much is just fluff?

[QU\ Johnson then asked why McNabb never gelled with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, but again, Allen said ‘twas not so.

“I don’t know if I would use that characterization,” Allen said. “I think they gelled very well, actually, at times. It was the first year for everybody with the Washington Redskins, and it takes some time in order for people to learn another person’s desires.” [UN\

If there is another characterization he would use to describe the relationship that seemingly eroded between McNabb and the Shanahans', then let's hear it. If there is one, it would certainly clarify a lot of peoples' thinking. If it takes time [as he so stated] then why was McNabb given so little?

Smootsmack, rank for me 1-5, 1 being our top guy to get, as to whom we might get in FA?

Like Nnamdi, Aubrayo Franklin, Sidney Rice,..

Sure, but couldn't you say that about Joe Flacco?

And this year, what is the smartest move to make for the redskins in free agency?
Because here my fellow football fans, when they stop bullying me for being a redskins fan, say that we should try to get a QB free agent, but I have a better feeling with letting Beck or even Grossman have their shot.
Interesting. I'm curious, who is the favorite football team in the rest of Europe? Dallas?

LOL no not Dallas. I don't know for Europe, among the few fans I know in France you'll find a lot cheering for philadelphia, the giants, and the patriots... but still you'd talk to them because you need people to watch games ^^

I think there's a lot of QB throwing the ball away when under pressure, I'm just saying, with our OL, that's not what whe need...

Makes sense. Usually when people root for a team in another country the usual candidates are the best teams. Here in America the most rooted for soccer teams that I've seen recently are Barca, Man U, Real, and Chelsea. So if I had to guess I would say the Pats, Colts, Cowboys and Steelers. Maybe the Giants because they play in New York.

The Skins rating is actually impressive seeing as how all the teams in front of us have actually done something the last decade.

I wouldn't even pretend to be able to rank them. That'd be too tough to do

I agree with you. Personally, though, I dislike being a frontrunner. So it's West Ham and Villareal for me. I don't like Man U or Real at all.
