Re: Jury Duty: How many times can you be called?

So those of you who have said F off to them, do you just not go? We've read that the police will come and GET you or that you can get fined for not going.

We'd LOVE to just call them up and be like, "This is getting ridiculous, how about you defer us for a year then you can pull this shit again."

Good advice saden. I know that's probably half-joking, but my wife has a lawyer friend and he said that a lot of people say things like that to get out of it and he says it works EVERY time.

It's almost like they're trying to "stick it to us" because of the two times I had to call to be excused because of vacation.

One of the easiest ways to get out of it is stand when they ask if you have any family or friends that are LEO's, I have never seen anyone picked that has stood up for that question.

Give them a call and see what's up, could be some sort of mistake on their part. I've never heard of someone getting called that frequently in such a short period of time.

I've been called several times only to find no trial.

The one time that I actually moved into a jury pool, a lawyer asked the roomful of potential jurors, "Raise your hand if you think that the criminal justice system needs to be reformed." I raised my hand out of honesty. I was the only one to raise a hand. Ten minutes later I was dismissed.

Yeah, I know, but it helps ease the shame of not voting.

Once. I was called to a historic courthouse in Gettysburg, PA even though I no longer lived in that County. I was excited about it...I actually WANTED to serve because law has always interested me. I wanted to be a lawyer and even sat in on some law classes at Gettysburg College when I was about 13 or 14. Then, I considered the 6 years of school and massive debt, and went into Accounting instead.

I wore a tie and tried to get on...I was one of the first dismissed while rednecks literally covered in oil from working on cars before coming in were selected.

I guess I looked like I knew too much.

Funny you mention that because that's EXACTLY what her friend said was the case. The nicer you dress, the less likely you were to get picked. In most cases, a jury of your peers isn't people in business suits.

Re: Jury Duty: How many times can you be called?

I found this interesting(tweet related to CBA mediation):

AlbertBreer Albert Breer
And another labor committee member, John Mara of the Giants, is doing jury duty now and won't be here today, either.

TMC - I'd place a call to the local courthouse's court clerk and let them know. I imagine that the different lists they are using are resulting in frequency of calls, and if they are not updating their system, they could be missing taking your name off. In the State of Maryland, you are exempt for 3 years between services.
