Not to mention the trade demands that were made by Corey Dillon before that. He was there an additional 4 years AFTER he demanded a trade. I think once Cincy says they won't trade someone, their track record certainly confirms it. |

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
For better or worse, it would appear that the name "Redskins" will be inexplicably linked to any potential QB availability as long as it's perceived an issue remains at the position. Touchy in deciphering the real from the imagined.

The Redskins have Donovan McNabb "under their control" in the off-season. that is the way the Skins' FO wants to spin it - - but there is a nasty reality they choose to ignore. If they have McNabb on the roster at the beginning of the next NFL season, they owe him $10M for next year. $10M is what you may choose to pay your #1 QB; $10M is not what you pay the guy who you know from the outset will be your #2 or #3 guy (don't have any idea how the "evaluation of John Beck" went in the last two weeks of 2010). So, there is a "problem" at the Skins' QB position. Do The Shanahans swallow hard and put McNabb back in as the #1 guy next year? I doubt there is enough Tobasco sauce in the country to make the amount of crow they would have to eat taste good. I really don't see The Shanahans and McNabb kissing and making up. So there is the "problem" and it is not hard to perceive that it is there. No one knows how it will be resolved - - but until it is resolved one way or another it will be easy for any NFL observer to see the problem exists. Please note, I have made no statements here as to whether or not McNabb gives the Skins a better shot at next year's playoffs than does Rex Grossman, John Beck and/or any hypothetical draft pick at QB who might fall the Skins' way. The"problem" everyone perceives is that the Skins have a big-name QB that they probably have to move. That leave a vacancy at the position...

He played well for the most part, except for his interception total, but we had a big play offense we have not seen since Spurrier's preseason and the last couple minutes of the Monday Night Miracle. McNabb, like Campbell the year(s) before, took a beating from lack of protection. He ran out of trouble VERY well, better than he has for years in my opinion. But, any QB can only do so much on his own. Rabach needs replaced ASAP. We may need to solidify the RT position. Dockery isn't fit for the scheme and will need to be demoted or replaced. The only lineman we can really feel confident in is Trent Williams. Our #10 pick needs to be used on the BEST lineman we can get, any position, but preferably a Center/Guard who can either replace Rabach or allow one of our guards who are natural centers to kick him to the curb. Put a rookie QB behind Rabach and he'll have more INTs than TDs too. Build up this line with the #10 pick and hopefully the second rounder too. Go after a FA...even Jared Gaither for a season or two. Hopefully Mike Williams can come back strong. McNabb did have some setbacks in his transition from a polar-opposite offense under Reid, but he did show signs of being a QB we can win with...but now alone. Don't forget, he wasn't the only Redskin on offense who was transitioning to a new system...they ALL were. Ask Derrick Dockery how easy is was. Even Cooley had a rough year with drops...perhaps his concentration was on the new routes or assignments? Year 2 needs to be a continuation of Year 1. Don't give up after 16 games, that would be foolish and set us back to Day 1-Post Zorn again. McNabb needs to keep progressing but needs protection too. He couldn't even be assured of the ability to drop back every play...at least once weekly, Rabach would tackle him.

I don't think thats a far stretch honestly.. Shanny won't let 5 go unless we have a QB ready to go and I dont think they trust Rex enough

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Sure DM could be back. The question is, is he worth the $$ over someone like Grossman, or possibly another veteran QB that would only be in place until a rookie is ready to play?
The Skins were smart to keep their options open with DM until week 1 of next season, but I still think the chances of him coming back are very slim. |

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I'm taken aback that there are even posts this morning about 5 coming back. It's of course possible, I am just surprised that anyone thinks it's realistic. After reading Buster's posts I thought about some athletes that said they were done w/a team, but eventually came back.
I can't think of any that had that much of a public airing of grievances w/an asst. coach like 5 had w/Kyle S. If all this were just about the benching then I would think McNabb could be back, but when his agent went public about Kyle S. ignoring his client's suggestions, etc., that really seemed to force the team to look for trading partners. The one small chance of him being back is that Mike S. takes it upon himself to mend fences between he, Kyle & McNabb. If he decides he wants 5 as qb it will happen, but from what has gone down thus far I see no indication of that, and MS has said that he won't stick w/a player that's not right for the team just because of where they were drafted, or what was traded for them. |

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I dont think they should play McNabb, because as others pointed out, he is only a stop gap until the QB for the future is ready. McNabb has had his best days and he wont get better with us, he will only regress.

I could not agree more on all accounts. Time to end the love affair with players who are on the downside of their careers. It has not worked for us yet so why keep beating a dead horse?

It can be blamed on alot of factors, but the one that most people seem to be missing is that McNabb has had his best day. People are still in denial thinking he can be good here, but most of the signs point to DM being like every other aging star QB. That is, his play suffers slight, but noticible decline, and regresses to the point that he is benched for a youngster...then retires if he cannot swallow his pride and continue in the NFL as a backup.

I also think this year was more than he bargained for in terms of preparation. He probably thought he could work at the same pace he did in Philly, but he had to learn a new system here. He may have underestimated his learning curve as much as the Skins overpaid for him. |
