Again, seems like a more professional approach overall.

^this is how I feel. It feels great to be a normal franchise where there is a plan, moves are thought out and there seems to be a realization that we are not just 1 or 2 players away (we have never been). Though it feels less "exciting", its good to know we taking our time and we are not just on #1 on speed dial of every agent looking for a monster payday.

The moves and rumors of Rabauch re-uping and Clifton coming in for a possible signing....makes sense. We need some sort of stability on the Oline who knows the organization, been with the team and is a vet...Rabauch makes sense. He is average at best, but a vet who has experience to make the line calls, who may be working with 2 possibly 3 new young guys. Clifton is clearly a stop gap, experienced, who can take a couple young guys and teach them the position. There just isnt alot there in the way of Tackles in free agency and with the uncapped year, we can take the risk on him, and not be spending toooo much.

Glad that so far (there's a long way to go) I'm not dealing w/any of that.

I wonder if BA and MS think Albert is an asset to the team or a big headache that they need to try to fit somewhere, especially now that they are looking at the 3-4. I am guessing the latter.

I think anytime you have a guy as talented as AH, you look for a way to get the most out of him.

dang so the only news is that chad clifton has a scheduled visit with us.

len pasquerrali (sp?) so far was right, he said on 105.7 the fan 2 days ago the skins were looking to add a veteran LT, he specifically named only chad clifton, then groom a young LT.

Clifton is nothing special but he's a solid vet and he helps us keep our options open in the draft.

How about the Jets lining up Cromartie and Revis on the corners? Whew...that's a tough combo.

EXACTLY! Good point!

Okay, so Aaron Rogers was sacked a league high 50 times in 2009. Probably has more to do with Rogers technique rather than the guy that was protecting his blind side.

If the Redskins are able to sign Clifton, now there is no need to use that first round pick on Okung and pay out major cash for an O-lineman.

If Clifton signs with Washington, now Shanahan and company can become major players in the draft for guys like Bradford or Clausen. And still have a young enough lineman on the left side to protect one of those guys for several years.

There is no sin in addressing the O-line first.

Personally, I would be ecstatic if they signed Clifton, Levi Jones and then drafted Okung or Davis. Then Heyer would be buried in the depth chart where he belongs.

According to the Denver Post, "word is" the Chargers fully intend to re-sign NT Jamal Williams despite releasing him Thursday afternoon. Denver looked like a possible landing spot if Williams was going to test the market due to the presence of ex-Chargers DL coach Wayne Nunnelly. The Chargers, though, are expected to retain Williams for a lesser salary than the $5 million he was due. Williams likely has something left, so it appears to be a smart and cost-effective move by Bolts GM A.J. Smith.Source: Denver Post

I am not sure he was overpaid. They brought Wiegman in yesterday and could not agree. So I would not be surprised if he signs for more $ than Rabach.

Had to look Clifton up to see who he was...

Chad Clifton

The Redskins have scheduled a free agent visit for free agent LT Chad Clifton on Friday.

It's a brilliant pursuit by the Redskins, who are willing to spend way more than Green Bay and are in desperate need for blind-side help. Clifton can still pass protect efficiently and offers extensive zone-blocking experience. The Redskins are installing the same system under new coach Mike Shanahan.

Sounds good to me, but I'm worried about if we still draft Okung after getting a decent FA LT.

Well no matter what they think they are paying him 32 million in 14 months and he is still the most dominant Defensive lineman in football.

I think Shanahan is confident in his ability to manage a personality like Phat Albert.

Re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread

Sounds like we've lost Peppers, but Dansby sounds like a strong possibility:

Quote:
Karlos Dansby

Free agent Karlos Dansby indicated in an ESPN interview early Friday that the Redskins are not out of the mix to sign him.

"Washington is definitely a place I'm looking at," he said. "My gate is wide open right now. I'm going to take every visit." ESPN's Adam Schefter and SI's Peter King both report that Washington is taking a wait-and-see approach in the first wave of free agency. It's possible that Dansby is using the Skins idea to boost his market because Dan Snyder is usually so aggressive.
