The infamous swinging gate trick play

Hey guys, can someone please help me understand what was supposed to happen on that god-awful trick play the Skins ran against the Giants? Is there a video of a succesful swinging gate anywhere??

Jon Gruden put it best....He had never seen something like that, and he hopes he never had to see it again.

Unbelievable that Zorn tried it the first time, Giants called time out...and then he did the exact same thing again...

Well, he did the same thing earlier in the year on a trick play, I think on the Hunter Smith TD pass

I don't believe I've ever seen a worse play in my life as a Redskins fan. It further cemented our status as a laughing stock team.

Re: The infamous swinging gate trick play

I thought that the play design was actually pretty good. It should have left Yoder or Davis wide open.

The problem was that it was a surprise play and the element of surprise was lost with the timeout we took. To me, it was a good play that was very poorly implemented.

To answer the question asked above, the swinging gate has been implemented successfully many times. My own high school team defeated our arch-rivals with the play. But in the NFL it is only going to work when combined with the element of surprise.

Re: The infamous swinging gate trick play

Right. I agree w/all the above. Stupid call, stupid play.

Two main points:
1) EVERYONE knew what they were doing after the timeout. No suprise = don't try it again. Dumb call Zorn.

2) If we were set on going for it, why not get your QUARTERBACK to throw the ball into the endzone with a real play?? Do you really think Hunter Smith is a better passer (*without* an offensive line??). Give JC a chance!!!

Should've just kicked a field goal.
