Shanahan's Defense

I created this thread because we always talk about his offense, but never about Shanahan's defense which has kind of been poor. Rumors that keep flowing around say that IF/When Shanahan comes here he'll bring in Bob Slowik who I know nothing about. Now the latest rumor is that Mike Zimmer who is a great DC and head coaching candidate may come here with Shanahan as well as Slowik. Thoughts, comments, conserns...

Re: Shanahan's Defense

I would just wait a month til we get our new guys in here to even start a thread on a possible D. For all we know Shanny might not come here, however slight as it may seem.

It won't be long now before we'll know the answer to your question and we won't have to speculate anymore. Most will be happy to see this current defensive staff find another team to coach. Hope that whoever the new DC is, he will have a better working relationship with the players.

Off topic a bit but did they ever announce the cause of death for Zimmer's wife?

Re: Shanahan's Defense

I can't envision Zimmer leaving the Bengals for another D coordinator job. I'm sure he's a top candidate for any team looking for a Head Coach. So If he does leave it will be for a HC position IMO. The only other reason I can see him coming with Shanahan is for the money. DS is very generous when it comes to paying his coaches.

All I've seen is "natural causes".

Re: Shanahan's Defense

I agree with the point about Zimmer seeking a HC position... I know money talks but he has built such a good defense up in Cincinnati that he would surely be looking for a step up in status.

Re: Shanahan's Defense

After reading this thread and I have no idea who Bob Slowik is, so I decided to start digging around a little bit for any information on Slowik.. I have to say Slowik's records does not look good at all.. I do not know why some people would rant on the idea of bringing Slowik in as defense coordinator.. With all talents we have on our defense, we need someone better than Slowik to utilize the players..

http://dcprosportsreport.com/2009/12/27/more-evidence-of-shanahan-to-dc.html

More evidence. Yes it is Pro Football Talk, but it is not really being reported by them, but more of a redux of Adam Schefter, who was originally a bit skeptical when Chris Mortenson told us at DCPSR you can book Shanny to DC. Schefter is completely buying in now as well.

Re: Shanahan's Defense

Shanahan had a good defense when Ray Rhodes was the D coordinator.

Tragic. She lost her voice and the family thought she just had a sore throat or something and then suddenly her organs just started dying on her one by one.

It's possible both Zimmer and Slowik are here. Though I think Zimmer is more likely a head coach somewhere in 2010.
