Re: What If The Redskins Beat Dallas?

Let's add to the what if...G men & Philly lose, which is not that much a stretch.

That would put us 1 game behind nyg & philly & 2 behind dallas. With 6 games left, that's not far out of the race. We like to think the nfc east is the toughest, but it might be a couple 9-7 teams at the top at season's end.

I can't get behind that sort of thinking.

If the team is winning despite losing key guys like Cooley, Samuels, Thomas, Portis etc., perhaps we should consider that the future isn't so bleak after all, and perhaps we do have some good depth and young stars on the rise.

Of course the offensive line still needs major attention for the future, I don't think that will change win or lose.

All that said, beating Denver really didn't change my view of the team or my expectations for the rest of the season. If the team plays well again in Dallas, I might start to change my mind.
I can never root for the Skins to lose, even after they're mathematically eliminated. I am hoping for a significant change in FO philosphy to come out of this first half disaster. Lack of O-line depth has been a HUGE factor in our offensive woes. This was no surprise, most on this board have been calling for rebuilding O-line depth through the draft for a couple years now. Until we stop tossing draft picks like confetti, and trying to fill our holes through FA, we will continue to be borderline playoff contenders in our best years, and basement dwellers of the NFC East in our worst.

Thomas and Davis are beginning to show us glimpses of potential the last couple of weeks, which gives hope that we will have playmakers when the O-line is rebuilt.

There's something to be said about having the younger players play once the season is over which it is for all intent and purposes.

I want them to finish respectable. That means we fill the holes again, and keep building. I am not in the blow up the roster Snyder-like mentality camp. This ain't madden and our roster is not completely broken.

Exactly my thoughts. I mean imagine we somehow win out, consider all the key losses to injury and the strength of the remaining teams can we really say we are headed in the wrong direction. If anything that might be what we need.

Think about it this way, if we continue to see other backs outperform Portis I would think it would be a clear sign that maybe its time to move on from him. It works the same way with many of the older players. That is the one reason these last few weeks havent sucked as much as the first few weeks, we see a lot of our younger players and what exactly they offer us.

Re: What If The Redskins Beat Dallas?

If we win Zorn will go down in history as beating Dallas in the last Skins-cowboys game at texas stadium, and the first game at jerryworld! Regardless of any other facts, he would have that in the record books. Heck when all is said and done, that probably would be his legacy.

Anyway even if Portis is down we get a new young running back in draft and still keep Portis. That seems the normal way things are done.

It's just like my Drill Instructor told me, "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all be fat mother f**kers!"

Let's cross that bridge when we get there.

Re: What If The Redskins Beat Dallas?

Here's the thing....the team is going to win against Dallas. Betts is going to run all over them and people are going to be all on the wagon again.

The running game will hide Campbell's problems. Portis will come back and the running game is gone again, Campbell plays like normal and then everybody gets all negative again.

Sorry guys, but if we finish 9-7 or 8-8, people are gonna say that we are just a player or 2 away from making a superbowl run...we need a 3-13 or 4-12 season so that the team completley starts over....thats the only way we will get these old overpaid players out of here, and bring in guys who just want to play....

what about marty he sure did "try to fix" that and royaly screwed this franchise up that was the begining of the fall right there

Should we be fortunate enough to win a few more games in impressive fashion, complacency may set in and management may begin to think we're actually better than we are. Sad thing to imagine winning being anything other than a good thing.
