Cooley isn't a great blocker either but yeah Davis is worse. Still, that's up to the coaches to be aware of that and not leave him alone on a guy like Trent Cole who eats up TE's one on one.

I was going to make that point too. Gruden said several times that this team has talent.

Re: Believe it or not I saw some positive signs

What I never understood. Cooley is a "Receiving TE" not a "Blocking TE". Then we go out and pick up another TE with the same abilities. I understand the whole "Best player available" thing but if we were in the market for another TE, it would have been prudent to have picked up a "Blocking TE". I'm not putting down Davis, with at little work he will be probably just as good as Cooley.

I think the coach's are having trouble using the players talent to their benifit. Maybe I'm wrong, but don't call plays that won't work with the talent you have. Shit can the call and move on to plays that do work best with the talent you have. I like what I saw in Betts being the lead blocker and Rock running the ball behind him (I can't believe I'm saying it again) but we saw only a few plays of that. Mostly single back system with Portis, or I-formation with Sellers blocking. We did better with Betts and Rock.

I thought that myself. He was very political and I was watching for him to be so before the game started.

It's not like he'd have to remake the whole team. The defense is set for the most part. SS only needs to get rid of El.

All he has to do is fix the offense. All the offense really needs is lineman and a kick in the ass. He'll have to cut out some of the cancer too.

I want B-Mitch for attitude coach.

Re: Believe it or not I saw some positive signs

This was a frustrating game because there were positives mixed in with the negatives. Finally, Davis hangs on to the ball (except that one in the endzone, but he makes the next catch). Thomas actually showed some promise and broke a few tackles. McIntosh is starting to play to his potential. London Fletcher -- it's hard to overstate how impressive he is. He brings it every play and makes everyone around him a better player. And he's total class -- a real Redskin of the Darrell Green, Charles Mann, and Monte Coleman variety. I thought Haynesworth was disruptive and is allowing Carter to beome a real impact player. And while I know some will disagree, I thought JC played remarkably well considering he had no one blocking for him. He threw for nearly 300 yards (when it was pretty obvious we were going to throw), 2TDs, and had a pretty good completion percentage. And he fought the whole time. He does need to take better care of the ball, but with defenders draped on him so frequently, that's a pretty hard thing to do.

Overall, the D was fantastic, except for two long plays for TDs. (I know, that's like saying, "But other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?") But the long run and the long TD reception by Philly was most of their offense for the entire game -- 67 of 127 yards and 57 of 156 yards, respectively. Take away those two plays, and the Eagles had a whopping 60 yards on the ground and 99 yards in the air on all other offensive plays combined. Given that our offense struggled so mightily to sustain drives, that is really impressive.

Having said all of that, unless we can get some improvement on the offensive line, we won't beat anyone. That was as bad a performance by an offensive line as I can ever remember. Heyer, Montgomery, and Rabach were beat all day -- Heyer and Montgomery looked like whipped dogs on the sidelines.

There were some positive signs at the game last night.

They said, "EXIT."

Re: Believe it or not I saw some positive signs

The only positives I can see is that a game like last night's will force the younger players in more on-field action. You never want to lose someone like Chris Cooley, but we do get to see a lot more of Fred Davis. Hopefully we will continue to see Devin Thomas improving as well. I still have high hopes for Thomas. Kelly, not so much.

It's funny...now we have to be skeptical of anything Gruden or any other potential coaching or GM candidate that currently works as a TV analyst says. They won't say anything too negative about the FO because they dont wanna piss DS off. But right now, thats exactly what we need.

Positive signs? Those must have been signs created by Danny and Vinny to replace the negative ones they weren't allowing in. Where they written in crayon? What did they say?

"Dan and Vinny Rulez!"

"Playoff Bound!"

"It's everyone else's fault!"

Oh, those kind of signs...

Yeah, coming out of pre-season, it surprised me that Kelly was named the #2 receiver because I thought Thomas was playing way better than him. I was just hopeful that they were seeing something I was missing. This makes me think that there's also a few others on the team that they have misjudged like Marko Mitchell and the running backs that they recently let go.

No but the next one most likely will be. Unless I'm wrong and CBS is taking over cause FOX can't fix their video feed problems. Funny that CBS had the same problem also during the Chiefs game I think.

Edit: or was that ABC.
