Javon Walker DIDN'T have those yards last year - that's what I was responding to.
Just so you know, Mason is a #1. Bruce is paid a bunch more than Coles. Stokley has Peyton Manning, Burleson has Daunte Culpepper, Driver and Walker have Brett Favre, whereas Coles had Brunell through 9 weeks. Did you consider that? I can't believe the stuff that is coming out people's mouths about Coles. All of you were talking all this trash last year about how great Coles is. Now, they wanna turn over the roster like Daniel Snyder. Fairweather fans ain't fans. |

Coles has been a productive WR in every system he's played in. This year he's been hampered by injury, poor QB play and an offense that hasn't been able to stretch the field. Even with all those factors working against him he's on pace to snag 90+ balls, granted the TD's aren't there but since when are TD's the main category we judge WR's on?? Monk was never a high TD guy, do we question his accomplishments?
Coles has never been a big TD guy, but I believe that's due to the way he's used more than his inability to find paydirt. Under Spurrier he was used as a decoy in the redzone and we saw McCants benefit from that. Because McCants had 6 TD's last year does that make him a star? I guess it does if TD's are the most important stat some of you guys are looking at. Coles is the last thing we need to be concerned about when it comes to shaping our WR corps. for next season. |

Matty,
Thank you. I can understand why people want Mike Williams to replace Gardner. I just don't want to hear any criticism of Coles. Picking up Coles was the 2nd best decision Danny's ever made (#1 is getting Gibbs back). |

Ramseyfan - Both Mason and Bennett have more yards/TDs than coles. Mason is the #1 as far as Volek is concerned, and that's who got a majority of the yards/TDs this year.
Coles is a good receiver, but if you ask anyone around the league to name a big time receiver, no one will mention Coles. Moss, Johnson, TO, Holt, Harrison are the big names. Coles needs surgery, we need him healthy. I certainly don't want him going anywhere because I love the guy, but stat's are stats. Bruce and Holt have Chris Chandler throwing to them for the last 5 weeks - did you consider that? Every team goes through ups and downs and injuries, it's hard to use them as an excuse (obviously a receivers injury means he won't get the #s, but I mean as far as the team around them) Coles is a great guy and a solid receiver, but I still think we need a big guy on the other side. A real clutch go-to guy in tight spots. Coles doesn't have the size to be a great receiver in the Redzone. |

Marvin Harrison is paid $9.6 million per year. Randy Moss is paid $9.2 million per year. Terrell Owens is paid over $7 million per year. Torry Holt is paid $6.4 million per year and is playing opposite Issac Bruce (just slightly better than Gardner). Chad Johnson is the only player on that list who doesn't have a monster contract ($5 million per year), who doesn't have a top notch superstar playing opposite him, or who doesn't have a great QB throwing to him (Palmer will be great). You can't compare Coles to those guys. Anyone looks bad next to Harrison, T.O., or Moss. You failed to mention Peerless Price. Does anyone besides me seem to remember that we almost signed Peerless Price instead of Laveranues Coles? In two seasons, Peerless has 102 catches (Coles has 169), Peerless has 1,367 yards (Coles has 2,117), and Peerless has 5 TDs (Coles has 7). Peerless has Vick under center, we have had Brunell, Ramsey, Hasselbeck and Rob Johnson. Price and Coles got about the same contract (Price's total value is slightly higher). |

It's impossible to compare players fairly, it's apples and oranges.
There's always things to consider like the system they're playing in, how often the team throws, how long they've been in the system, etc. All I know is Coles is a damn good WR and we could certainly do ALOT worse. Rod Gardner as our #1 anyone?? |
