I can hardly fault a guy for making those decisions, doubt many people could do much better.. you never know what's going on in the FO's of a team, if they're gonna draft for need or BPA or what, it's not the science that some people make it out to be, he's gotta mock it and of course he won't get it all right
Actually Kiper gets paid to talk to those FO folks and have some idea about what they have in mind. Otherwise ESPN is wasting the money that they pay him. Put differently, why should we read his mock drafts if he doesn't know any more than we do?

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?

The reason I posted the link was to show why, I for one, take what he says with a grain of salt. Just because he says it, doesn't make it so. If more than a couple of these guys say the same thing, there may be some merit to it. But Kiper is not the know-all, end-all of the NFL draft. NOBODY is sure who is going to pick who, except the guys making the picks. And even they don't know until they see how the draft falls. Nothings wrong with an educated guess, but it is what it is, a guess.

That is the great mock draft conundrum, is it not?

Kiper's been at it for 25 plus years, so he knows what he's talking about, but it's important to point out that his mock's don't get historically more accurate with time. He's not working with insider information. He's working off his own player grades, and his personal interpretation of team behavior, which means that he has to take into account what he believes is and is not a smokescreen.

We do know that Vinny heavily values his input on draft grades. But there's no reason to believe that he got Vinny to cough up our draft strategy in exchange. That would be pretty criminal, and thusly, unlikely to have occurred.

If every team made their draft board public, Mock Drafts would be very easy and informative. The rampant speculation around this time of year tends to drain their value. You can mock a fantasy football draft with 300% more accuracy than you can hit the NFL draft.

There's reason to think we're interested in Sanchez, but not a lot of reason to trade up for him. If we were just going to take best available quarterback at No. 13, there would have been no reason to have the closed door meeting with Campbell.

I mostly agree with you.

But this Warpath conversation got started when Kiper was quoted in a previous post as saying that Vinny had a draft trick up his sleeve and thus Kiper predicted a trade up to take Sanchez. This would represent a claim by Kiper to have insider information about our draft strategy.

To me, Kiper has been flat wrong too many times in similar "insider information" claims that he has made. Therefore, for reasons you mentioned, I am inclined to disbelieve the trade-up-for-Sanchez claim which he made. I pray that I am correct in my disbelief but won't know for sure until the 25th.

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?

Was it Kiper that also said he thinks the Skins could trade out of #13 if Sanchez is there?

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?

Well if we use the #13 pick on Sanchez i will be smoking Hot. I think we use our 13th pick on a player thats has to start. I think this has got to be a smoke screen to get other teams to believe that we may take Sanchez. Hopefully a team that really needs a QB will want to trade into our spot and we can pick up some extra picks.I dont trust Junior QB's to come in an make an immediate impact. Please Vinny i hope you got this cause we are pulling for you to get it right.

If Danny was watching SortsCenter this morning, we're taking Sanchez. That is, until they showcase another player next week. And then...

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?

I wish Danny/Vinny would listen more to the players around JC. From everything I've heard he's respected and our guys believe he can make things happen given the opportunity.

...if there has to be one "complaint" about JC i guess i heard or read somewhere he used to sort of mumble or lose his own voice in the huddle...maybe he wants to be a ventriloquist LOL.

I am not saying that his final mock is different, but the mock that is shown was probably updated many times.

You may be right, but that's another reason to take his pick with a grain of salt. I have no problem with Kiper, he doe's the best job he can with what he has to work with, but I find his opinion a little more ventriloquist than others of his profession.

I like Sanchez, if we draft him it wouldn't make much sense though.
Even if you consider QB a need, which i don't, we have much more pressing needs on the OL, DL and OLB.

Drafting Sanchez imo would show that this franchise truely has no idea how to build a championship winning team.
I thought that Vinnie finally had total control but if we draft Sanchez it will settle once and for all the question of who really calls the shots for the Skins.

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?

The Washington Times is reporting today that the Redskins are could pick Sanchez at thirteen. I think if the Redskins realy are going after him they wont wait for thirteen. They will wait till the Jags pick and try to trade ip to get him. It is not in our nature to wait on a pick.
