Re: Seems like Cutler might be available.
IMO Cutler is going to be great. When people talk about the best QB's in the league I think his name will come up quickly. Others may not think he's that good but assuming that is true...how many draft picks do you think that is worth? How many draft picks would you have payed for say Marino, Elway, Manning even McNabb as they were entering their prime? A player like this just doesn't become available. Teams just don't trade away potential franchise QB's in their early to mid 20's...they trade them at 30+ when they are used up...this situation is unheard of. More then 2 #1 picks seems crazy for just about any player in the league but not for a franchise QB entering his prime. The reason you think its crazy is because teams don't trade players like this so there is no president to fall back on.

Re: Seems like Cutler might be available.
I would give them all and then some...in a second. And normally I never suggest trading draft picks...but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I think we all just have a difference of opinion on how good Cutler is going to be.

Re: Seems like Cutler might be available.
Do we all agree that if Cutler went back in this draft he would go #1 overall? And if you believe reports then Detroit has already offered this pick for him. Assuming we agree then that #1 pick has a value of 3000 points on the trading chart the NFL teams use. The Redskins pick #13...so I started from there. This is about what it would take to get to the 3000:
#13 = 1150 points #14 = 1100 points #23 = 760 points You can argue if Cutler as a player is worth it and if it's the right move for the redskins...but teams have payed this steep price to go up and get players before. The Giants for instance payed a steep price for Eli a few years ago.

Re: Seems like Cutler might be available.
You obviously place high value with Cutler, a QB who hasn't even won a playoff game in this league. If you're going to give up that much he better be a guy that leads you to multiple Super Bowls in the future. At this point I'm not ready to say he's that kind of guy.

Re: Seems like Cutler might be available.
I'd do Cutler for Campbell straight up. Throwing in high draft picks to sweeten a deal that Denver already has every incentive to do is just Portis-Bailey all over again.

Re: Seems like Cutler might be available.
Denver would most likely have no interest in JC. It would be a draft pick trade with someone if Cutler was moved.

Re: Seems like Cutler might be available.
I don't see how you can ignore the tantrum Cutler is throwing. According to reports(no link) he ignored calls from the OWNER of the Broncos. No way would I want him on a team I root for (which I root for Denver in the AFC and wish they could have traded him earlier). This is not what you want your QB/Offensive leader to be doing. Maybe JM handled it poorly, all the more reason a pro QB could and should understand the situation and work to better it. Not exacerbate it by hanging up on a conference call.
I doubt Cutler will ever rise above the crop, not due to onfield talent, but because of his me first attitude. |

Re: Seems like Cutler might be available.
This whole franchise QB issue is EXACTLY why we should have brought in Drew Brees when we had the opportunity a few years ago...
That guy was a no-brainer (even with the surgery) cuz he just knows how to make decisions. This is a very lofty statement but, given our personnel and Snyder's pocketbook, i am certain we would have made the playoffs every year if we would have signed him (regardless of the situation with our offensive line).

Re: Seems like Cutler might be available.
It's funny how people criticize the FO so much, yet the this move would be one that not even the worst FO would do...well maybe Matt Millen would but it'd need to be a WR. After investing so much money on defense and possibly bringing a young offensive lineman in the first round, you want to bring in a new QB that needs to learn the system and have a one-year adjustment? Come, this is not a veteran QB that you'd be bringing who can pick up the offense easily. I think you guys are underestimating the need to have continuity at the key positions, not too mention giving JC the opportunity to develop confidence in the young WRs we have.

Re: Seems like Cutler might be available.
where do you get this kind of faith from? oh, i know. all the national championship games that Vandy played in. some guys just know how to win. i think Cutler isn't one of them. probably end up with great stats, and no rings

Interesting take on Cutler from Washington Post NFL Blogger Dan Levy-
