Yes I am very fimiliar with this type of drowning. Horrible tragedy!
On the side I do some work with the American Heart Association as a BLS Instructor. This is fairly uncommon, but occurs more than most folks would probably think.

Re: Boy Dies Of Dry Drowning After Leaving Pool And Walking Home
I used to lifeguard in the summers between college semesters. In our training classes they warned us about this. They always told us that if you see a kid submerged and then pop up gasping for air, it's important to keep a close eye. Sometimes kids dunk each other, and sometimes they pin each other underwater. Kids being kids, but if someone stays under too long they can take a big breath of water, and it can cause problems if they don't cough enough of it up.

Oh wow that sucks. I had no idea a thing like that could happen. That's a darn shame.

Re: Boy Dies Of Dry Drowning After Leaving Pool And Walking Home
This reminds me of the woman that died a year or two ago from water intoxication after participating in a stunt for a radio show out in California (I think).
It's crazy how fragile the body can be.

Re: Boy Dies Of Dry Drowning After Leaving Pool And Walking Home
Wow I'd never heard of this before. I knew a kid in Jr. High that crashed his bike and hit his head pretty hard. He seemed ok after so he just went home. I guess he felt tired too and told his mom he was going to take a nap. A few hr's later when she went in to wake him up for dinner he was dead. That's when I first learned how bad concussion could be. But drowning hr's after you've gone swimming? That's a new one for me.
I feel sorry for the poor mom that’s going to second guess herself for the rest of her life now. Sad story…
