Rams to select Chris Long with No. 2 pick

NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting that the St. Louis Rams will select Virginia defensive end Chris Long with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft. Long is expected to help a defensive unit that gave up more points per game last season than any other team except the Detroit Lions.

Mort reports that the Falcons are likely to pass up Dorsey and draft Matt Ryan with the 3rd overall pick.

wizzow. Does anyone else think that the shortened pick time has led to picks being announced a little earlier?

Well the draft just got 27 minutes shorter so thats a good sign. Also wonder if the Skins are going to get a chance to trade back. I've been saying for the past few days that I believe they'll trade up if they can't trade back, but the ironic thing is the fact that they might be targeting a guy like Steve Justice or Mike Pollack to help out along the Offensive Line.

Anyway back on topic this is obviously the smart pick. You would think with the NFL being a copy cat league that after the season fellow UVA Alum Patrick Kearny had teams would be salivating over C. Long. Instead the Rams seemed hesitant up until today, of course they could just be running a little misdirection to get the Saints to trade up.

Just because of all of the new thread that are being opened recently, I will just say it here:

ESPN's Micheal Smith announced RB Darren McFadden to be picked #4 overrall by the Oakland Raiders and Matt Ryan #3 overall by the Falcons. No link, was on ESPN Sportcenter.

The Rams can still change their mind, particularly if a trade offer comes their way. From the Ravens for example

Maybe one or more will be traded later on either this weekend or at the begining of the season

Three of those guys could be starters for any team around the league.

they're all sidekick backs. The only one I would take is Fargas because of his phenomenal numbers last year in only a few games. When I say I, I dont mean the Redskins, by the way. Thats just who I feel is the best of the four.
