Nascar: Stewart looking to leave JGR

Is old smoke putting up a smoke screen to get a big check before his contract runs out next season?

Or is smoke going to make a move and leave JGR and the yotas in the smoke and get back in a Chevy. I would not be surprised to see him leave JGR in 2009 when his contract is complete or sooner.

FOX Sports on MSN - NASCAR - Gibbs: 'Our hope is ... he retires here''

Re: Nascar: Stewart looking to leave JGR

I think he's more likely moving on and ultimately starting his own team (with JGR's backing)

On sort of a related note, watch NASCAR Now on ESPN2 Sunday April 27 at 10a. There's a really good interview with Joe and JD Gibbs. They talk about a lot of things. It's centered around Taylor Gibbs and how his leukemia has impacted the family and Joe's decision to retire.

The side note sounds good. I'll be sure to check that out. Retire from football that is.

The article sure didn't read that way. Sounds like they want Tony around and retire with JGR and I surely understand why. What makes you believe JGR would sponsor him if he left? And when do you expect him to leave? This year or next.

I think he'll leave after the 2009 season, unless they can come to some sort of agreement. I think JGR will be a silent partner, sort of like they are for HOF racing.

Re: Nascar: Stewart looking to leave JGR

Like the article says, the same thing happened during the rounds for his last extension. He's listening to ideas. He already owns a World of Outlaws car and some USAC midgets, and a few racetracks. His natural progression is to want to own his own Cup car.

The only way I see him leaving JGR is if he gets ownership in the car he goes to, or starts his own team with JGR backing, as Double S said...
