I know I will miss him out on the field and cannot help but wonder how we will ever find another player to take over for him. If you noticed I did not say replace because we can never do that.
As a football player Taylor well be very hard to replace. Cap or no!!!! Not many players in college or a free agent will fill his spot!!! In just looking at it in a fooball way this is going to take years to over come!

Sorry - I did not mean to disrepect Taylor, his family, the team and any Redskin fans. I actually regretted posting this right after I submitted it.

Rest in Peace Sean Taylor and my condolences to his family, Redskins players/coaches/team and fans across the world.

I don't think this thread is inappropriate. The players have to somehow figure out how to play this weekend, so it's not off base to mention this. There has to be some clause somewhere that grants relief for this kind of situation.

I know you didn't mean any disrespect and it's a fair question. As I pointed out, I thought the same thing. But, in all honesty, I snapped back and said who cares given that we just lost the guy a few hours ago. I didn't mean to kill the thread.

I don't think anyone is disrespecting Bill B, just not sure this is the proper time. Anyway, I think we've all had this thought or a variant of it cross our minds, immediately followed by 2 minutes of cursing at ourselves for being so shallow.

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications

People deal with things differently. I don't see this as inappropriate, but as a distraction from what is truly a tragedy. And while some may think it's inappropriate, unfortunately there are several members of the Redskins franchise who had to deal with this scenario before this thread was ever started...

You should not feel bad. It isn't disprespectful to wonder how this affects the team logistically. We all care about this team for so many things. One of the main things is success on the field and Sean's death affects that exactly the same way it affects those in his personal life. Certainly to a much less important degree but no less. The salary cap ramifications are a completely separate issue than our respect and love for ST are.

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications

I don't think people should feel bad for wondering this. It's somewhat natural. For me, something like this helps me not to focus directly on the death.

Blah, I can't even think and write today. Im trying to say something but Im sure I'd butcher it and it would be horribly misconstrued.

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications

Also, in my opinion I thought Taylor was not only our best defensive player but our best player on the team period. I think it will be one of those moments that we will not be able to replace him period - he is one of those one in a generation type of players that is not really replaceable.
Hopefully Sean is in a better place and they find the person(s) who did this and bring them to justice.

Unfortunately, it is treated by the NFL as any career ending injury. As horrible as it sounds, officially he will be put on the PUP list for the rest of this year.

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications

I believe the league's policy would be to treat the next year as though he had been released. That would mean a $+ million cap hit in 2008, unless the league granted some relief, or monies were repaid. I can't imagine the team would go after money from Taylor's fiancee and 18 month old daughter, so I'll just feel dirty for typing this.

For me I hope they find who ever did this and as you said bring them to justice!!! Florida has the death penalty and I hope they get this guy!!!! Going in to someones home while they are a sleep and doing this with a child in the house is the low of the low!

Re: Sean Taylor Cap Ramifications

I was worried that someone might start a thread like this today. Come on, people -- we're classier than this. The man had an 18th month old little girl and was going to be married. At the moment, I don't give a flying fuck about the cap ramifications, roster spots, or any of that shit. Portis and Gibbs said it well yesterday -- this is not about the game but a man's life. I vote to lock this down at least until there's been a memorial service for Sean.
