Gibbs wasn't exactly handed a Superbowl contender 4 seasons ago.

Have there been mistakes made by Gibbs, absolutely? But, I think a majority of the problems have been with the coordinators and Gibbs' biggest mistake has been being to loyal to them and I think he was too loyal to Brunnel also.

Make your excuses for him all you want. Ultimately the head coach must bear the weight of a losing team. This is a losing team. Gibbs has the talent here, but poor coaching, poor personnel decisions and poor execution = another season of mediocrity. This team is 8-8 at best, and if that's the best he can do, then I say hire a GM and Russ Grimm.

The only resume on Monster.com for GM is Casserly. I agree that we need one, but where do you go? There needs to be some young upstart. College players are different now. The NFL is different. Personally, I would have preferred a Bethard hire over a Gibbs hire. If we make a change in coaching (Gibbs will step down - he will not be fired), I'd rather see Cower than Grimm. Mainly because if Cower is here, Greg Williams is gone.

No excuses, all I want is this franchise to be a Superbowl contender year in and out. You are absolutely right on the Head Coach being responsible for the success/failure of his team. But, we do not currently have playoff caliber talent on this team right now. Campbell will get there, but this is essentially still his first season, Portis is past his prime and not a good fit for our offense, or WRs are awful, our OL is playing with a backup RG & RT (an undrafted FA). On defense, our DL scares no one, Washington has been hurt, Fletcher is an All-Pro level player, our corners are average at best, Landry is a rookie and Taylor is out. Poor execution has nothing to do with coaching, that is on the players.

Are Greg Williams and Al Saunders good coordinators, I don't think so. Have the poor personnel decisions been their fault, yes. Lloyd and Randle El were hand picked by Saunders and Archuletta was hand-picked by GW. Gibbs isn't going to throw those guys under the bus, but I've said in other posts, after the season, Gibbs needs to go into the front office as the GM with complete control and a new coach needs to be brought in.

Is Russ Grimm the answer at Head Coach, I don't know. Arizona isn't blowing the doors of the offensive stat categories and Pittsburgh didn't last year either.
