Clemens suspended and fined...Towers????

Clemens was fined and suspended, and rightfully so, but why was Towers not suspended?

Even Torre was fined, but no one on Toronto fined even though they started it.

Clemens, Rodriguez and Torre were fined along with Yankees coaches Larry Bowa and Tony Pena, Toronto’s Matt Stairs and Towers, and Blue Jays coach Brian Butterfield.

i don't agree with any of this. let the players police themselves. if someone gets hit, and that team thinks its intentional, then someone else will get hit. its always been the way. the one thing i don't like is the d.h. if that pitcher has the balls to hit someone, then grab a bat, and take your turn

I completely agree. Baseball needs that to remain prevelant. The fines and suspensions are too stiff. Players do need to police themselves, but since the majority of players hang over the plate, and hit homers, baseball wants to stop pitchers from evening the score. Do you think Bonds and his little gay twirl would be accepted 50 years ago? Hell no, he would be beaned!

I also feel players should not be allowed to wear the body armor they wear now.

I'm guessing Towers did not get suspended because he went first...as in, the 2nd guy is the one who always gets caught. Plus how many times in his career has Josh Towers been in trouble? That and his fastball can be timed with a damn sundial for pete's sake.

I understand the ankle guards, as I've taken one or two foul balls off my legs back in the day. but the upper arm crap is ridiculous... and if you are going to wear something, I think it should be worn until you get back to the dugout...so if you are going to go out there like Sir Lancelot, then you have to wear the crap running around the bases too.

I hit one off my ankle back in college, and it hurt, but it was my own fault for swinging at a ball. They didn't have body armor back in the day, they shouldn't be allowed to use it now.
I like your suggestion though, if you wear it to hit, you have to wear it at all times. That's fair. Although, what about batting gloves? Hard to throw with batting gloves on.

Naturally in the field you don't have to wear the armor, just during your at bat, and subsequent trot around the bases.
