Its why they say you want the ball in your playmakers hands. Portis and Sellers would probably both be effetive in short yardage (blocking issues aside), but Portis could potentially score from 50 yards out, and will do so a few times in a season. Sellers doesn't bring that to the table, and so you want to limit his carries.
exactly.

You're right. He's one of the best blocking fullbacks in the NFL, so he's better used in that capacity...plus when he does go out for a pass, it's usually a TD because the defenses are never looking for him to touch the ball. I like it better that way, he's like a secret weapon.

Goal-line carries would be good though. It works great on Madden.

One of my favorit stats: 12 receptions 7 TDs in 2005

NFL.com - Mike Sellers

I am all about defense but I had to pick Big Mike as my avatar, cause he is such a beast! (plus hes a former LB)
Yeah, I think you and Matty are feeling what I'm laying down. I truely feel that with his intensity and heart for the game, that he is one of our playmakers. Players like that elevate others' level of play.

Re: Give Big Mike The Damn Ball!

He should get the ball about 25% of the time on short yardage (runs). That is enough to make sure the defenses can't key on Betts or Portis. He won't break a big run, but he almost always gets the minimum yards required.

MIke Sellers is great inside the 10 for catching td's in the flat.

As much as I'd like to agree with you guys about how great Sellers is....the fact that he scored so many TD's had more to do with play calling. At that point in 05, no one expected a "blocking" FB the size of Sellers to be a receiver. They were all keying on the others, especially Cooley and Moss.
I would think that if they tried to duplicate these passes this year that the coverage would be much tighter. I dont know if Sellers can reproduce those TD figures anymore. However, they could use him as a decoy to open up more space for the others.

Regarding his running ability....I love the fact that he is a hammer, but he is slow...the problem is that we dont really have a clutch short yardage back. As you all know our short yardage wasn't too hot last year. I really think that is one of the reasons the Skins brought in TJ Duckett. He was supposedly a starting caliber running back who was also a hammer.
If you were to put Duckett and Sellers head to head, I think Sellers would be better for short but this still aint the long term answer....we need more to our power rushing game and I see Sellers as a back up to a true short yardage guy.

Rock did that for a while for us pretty well, but I believe he had some trouble last year moving the chains.....perhaps this was due to the shift towards zone blocking or something?

Question: (really think about this)
Who is our best 3rd and 1 specialty back?

(If you say Portis....you are crazy! cause you know that aint true!)
Betts, Sellers, Rock?
