Cloning one laptop to another

Question for the Tech geeks here, anybody know if there's a way to basically clone everything from an old laptop to a newer one without taking it apart?
I know macs have a pretty simple means of doing this but is there somthing for pcs?

yeah, use ghosting software. To use this software you do need either another HD (usb HD or even better, another partition on the same HD) or setup an ftp server and have the software place the disk image there.

Yeah, take the iso and burn it to a cd. and boot from it. Remember to set your CD-ROM as the first boot device in your BIOS.

Re: Cloning one laptop to another

hmm, that's not good. If you have tried booting from the disk several times and the same thing always happens I would go ahead and burn another CD of the ISO. If the second CD has the same problem then you're looking at a) hardware detection problem or b) your cd-rom is defective.

Also, don't forget to shrink your hard drive before you clone.

Connect an external and send it up with Ghost.

Re: Cloning one laptop to another

Thanks man. I'm actually sitting here in the Miami airport catching up on my Skins reading. Get back home at around 4:15 tonight where Daseal is picking me up, THEN we have a nice three hour drive back home.

Honestly, I am so fat. Cruises are awesome, but I feel so sloppy and disgusting.

Re: Cloning one laptop to another

do I need the full version of Ghost or will the trial get me by? I'm currently trying the 15 days trial hope that works.
Saden I believe the Cd rom has issues so that version ain't gonna work, but thanks for your help.

Re: Cloning one laptop to another

Yeah, that should work (I think). Also, you could just buy an external enclosure (about $30) which can hook up ANY type of hard drive so basically you can use old drives as externals. Well worth the investment.
