He's gotten himself into some legal trouble lately, funny part here is he's moving to the county I grew up in.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, rock star Trey Anastasio will move to Washington County and submit to drug court.

Anastasio will have to live in the county for at least three months and faces random drug tests and weekly treatment sessions.


If he successfully completes drug court, which will take at least a year, he will be sentenced to five years' probation. If he fails, he will face one to three years in state prison.

Anastasio, former leader of the rock band Phish, was arrested early Dec. 15 in Whitehall after police saw his car swerving and allegedly found him with an assortment of prescription medications, including hydrocodone, Percocet and Xanax, for which he had no prescription.

During a February appearance in Washington County Court, Anastasio pleaded not guilty to felony drug possession. He also pleaded not guilty to third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, seventh-degree drug possession and driving while impaired by drugs.

District Attorney Kevin Kortright said Anastasio was carrying more than 60 pills, weighing more than a half ounce, enough to warrant the felony charge. He also allegedly had an unknown substance, which was later identified as heroin at the State Police laboratory.
