Macklin's a career backup with multiple weaknesses. What's all the cheering about?

Have to disagree with that....solid situational if Greg plays him right.

Re: David Macklin our new CB

I love the Macklin signing b/c it shows that our organization is able to sign ppl for cheap. Macklin could have used the knowledge that the skins usually overpay and used that as leverage. It's good to know that he signed b/c he wants to be here not b/c we paid him the most. I have a strong feeling that GW sees something in rhis guy that made him compel Gibbs to personally talk to him.

My only concern with our signings thus far is that we are dedicating a lot of signings and roster spots to the secondary. This is great b/c they struggled last year BUT we are neglecting our depth on the O-line. I am not saying we should cut Springs, but if we can entertain some sort of trade scenario that will either give us a starting OG or a 2nd round pick (or something) that will give us the ability to draft a starting OG, I would say springs is now expendable.

I disagree about the OL, so far we've re-signed Wade and Pucillo, and also went out and signed Fabini and Tucker. They've addressed the OL depth and Wade is likely to start at LG. I don't think they are done making OL moves, but they certainly haven't ignored the need.

Let's look at it another way, we've got most of our cap tied up on the O w/a no. of D players towards the end of their deals. Plus our greatest needs are on D. We've been able to address the secondary in the offseason, and as Matty pointed out the O line to some degree too. That leaves us the draft for D line & maybe a guard or safety if the right players are available.

Other than the Briggs drama, this seems to have been a great offseason. A trade down in the draft would really be icing on the cake.

Freddy - I agree with you - I think the Bears being greedy has saved the Skins from making the trade for Briggs. I would say if the Skins can trade down 2 times to pick up multiple picks it would pretty much cap a fantastic offseason. Granted we lost Dock, but the Bills threw a stupid amount of money on him so we smartly let him go to not blow our cap.

The team is going in the right direction - just don't do the Briggs trade and address the D Line and hopefully trade down to get additonal picks and we are back on track.

No he's not. As his 06 scouting report (71) indicates he has alot of upside. He also had seven starts last year, this guy brings great depth at corner position for low cost, I think that's what the cheering is about!

KUDOS to the FO on this signing, well spent cash!

Ignorance abounds. Macklin has been a starter most of his career......both in Indy and in Zona.

I LOVE this pickup. Adding solid veteran depth to a key position, at a cheap price (not to mention getting a Nittany Lion back on the the team again). Good job, Gibbs.
