Re: Art Monk Denied Admission to the HoF
What's the big deal? We all knew the Hall had no credibility anyways. Who the hell cares if some dumbass sports writers think he isn't one of the greats? A person's character and worth is not determined by the perception of others.
If I were Monk, I'd ask to have my name removed from all future ballots. I'd boycott. Also, if I were a player in the Hall, I'd ask to have my bust removed until Monk was inducted. Remember the movie "Rudy", were all the players asked the coach to let Rudy play for them? Something like that.

Re: Art Monk Denied Admission to the HoF
I doubt this will happen but wouldn't it be great if next year Russ Grimm, Art Monk and Darrell Green all go in? I would like that. It might ease some of the pain we had to endure for Monk. What yall think?

As far fetched as that fantasy is...I'd actually travel up to Canton for that induction regardless of cost.

DG - as much as I would want that to happen I think Monk will not go in due to the vote being decided by a bunch of idiots. I saw that Dr. Z basically said Monks chances will now diminsh because todays WR's numbers are getting bigger and bigger and that would in turn make Monks numbers not as good - these guys are crazy if you ask me. Also I saw that Cris Carter will be in the ballot next year and will get the nod over Monk as well. To me to have one Redskin player (Riggo) in the HOF is about as dumb minded as it gets - how do these guys get the jobs they are in is beyond me. |

I'm assuming you don't actually mean there's only one Redskin in the Hall of Fame, as there are like 15... maybe you meant only one player from that Championship era?

Re: Art Monk Denied Admission to the HoF
If your a fan of any team in the NFL East during the 80's you know that Art Monk belongs in the HOF!It's not the club records the're looking at to me the're looking at the pro-bowls and such. They should have made Irvin wait another 10 years.

My bad - that is exactly what I meant - the 80's-early 90's. Also, not one Hog in the HOF - how can that be? I guess the voters excuse on that one is the Hogs did not have a "signature block". |

What a crock, though I can't say I'm surprised.
Crackhead Irvin and Thurman friggin Thomas. Unbelievable. The way these guys vote, Samuels is gonna get in before Monk. |

And Charlie Sanders? Granted, he was way before my time, but I've already heard from some people that as good as Sanders was, there's no way he should be in before Monk.

Re: Art Monk Denied Admission to the HoF
The latest from Peter King, not sounding good for our boy Arthur Monk.
"A good man and legitimate Hall of Famer is being denied entry for reasons we never know, by people who secretly vote. Art Monk is a Hall of Famer by any measure. This is not right." -- Washington owner Dan Snyder. Dan, not a bad point. As one of the 40 Hall selectors, I'd love to see Hall voting be opened up so we would be accountable in such an important election for how we stand. But what happened to Monk, in my opinion, is mostly bad. Good for Monk: The major roadblock in front of him, Michael Irvin, is no longer a roadblock; he's in. Bad for Monk: Next year comes Cris Carter, with 161 more catches, five more Pro Bowls and 62 more touchdowns in the same number of seasons. Then Tim Brown, with 154 more catches, and the stat race is on. Every year, Monk will fall farther behind in the numbers game. As someone who changed his mind on Monk and strongly advocated him this year (unquestioned leader on a three-time Super Bowl champ, superb downfield blocker, retired as the all-time receptions leader, never squawked for the ball with some other me guys in the locker room), I think it's going to be tough to get him in if he hasn't gotten in by now. |

Re: Art Monk Denied Admission to the HoF
I don't buy into the argument that Peter King has singlehandedly kept Monk out. He wasn't in favor of it for a long time, but apparently he wasn't alone.

Re: Art Monk Denied Admission to the HoF
Isn't it a little coincidental that right when he decides Monk is worthy of HOF consideration a new crop of receivers with better stats will be eligible? I think he doesn't want to receive any more heat for being regarded as a major opponent of his selection for the past number of years. He's a chicken-sh*t coward that's trying to cover his gluteous maximus using superficial public relations tactics.

Re: Art Monk Denied Admission to the HoF
Shefter explained that certain members hold sway over many other members and for years we have heard that PK is one of those people. I think you could make an argument that HE DID singlehandedly keep him out and now that there are other WR who will get in it seems disingenuous to change your mind when you know it is going to be even harder.
