problems with my dishwasher

So I recently got a new dishwasher but I can't get nice, clean dishes. My dishes always come out with a cloudy film on them. I've tried liquid detergent, powder, etc. I've also upped the water temp, lowered it, etc. I've used jetdry and no jetdry.

I'm really lost, any suggestions? I'm thinking it's something with the water, but what can I do about that?

did you replace a dishwasher, or is this the first dishwasher you have had?

If its the first, it may be the water, and you can install a softener if you want the problem to stop...

a good rinsing agent should work, but when I lived in Martinsburg my dishes were always spotty when I used the dishwasher... I wasn't springing for the softener...

I replaced a dishwasher, the old one was even worse so that's why I'm thinking it's the water and not the dishwasher or detergent. I'm thinking of picking up some of this stuff, anyone use it?

Does it look like a soap residue or are they just spotty? Do you have good water source and plenty of preasure? Have you check the manual to see if they have a trouble shooting section. Take a glass that you clean by hand and stick it in the washer when it gets to its rinse and dry cycle. If that glass is OK then you have a problem with one of the cycles and not the water.

Honestly, I'd look into the water softener. They're not that expensive, and your girlfiriend/wife will have a much easier time with her hair after a shower...

also you can slap a filter on the tap and drink it instead of buying bottled water... which I'm assuming you probably do, since when I had that problem the water from the tap was nasty as hell no matter what kind of filter i put on it...

we just got a new clothing washer, that uses only high efficiency detergent. maybe its the same with dishwashers?

This probably isn't what's causing your problem, but anyways...

I have noticed that if you use more detergent it helps with hard water and/or spotty dishes caused by the water. Try to use a ridiculous amount of detergent and see if anything changes.

I got one and it made a HUGE difference in EVERYTHING...showers and shampoo (lather MUCH better), I use less laundry detergent because it foams up like crazy without hardly any, dishes in dishwasher get cleaner with less soap, heck...even soap for your hands works better and your hands stay nice instead of dry. Water boils really fast when cooking and the food tastes better without the crap from the local farms in it and like you said...your tap water (I have a reverse osmosis faucet for cooking and drinking) is some "high quality H2O".
